Great Soul Build Thread

Anything goes! Inventors! Artists! Cutting edge solutions to old problems. But also non-commercial usage of record cutting. Cost- effective, cost-ineffective, nutso, brilliant, terribly fabulous and sometimes fabulously terrible ideas.

Hey I am new to lathe’s - I have built a lathe over the past few months based on the David Nelson design - I can only say the information available on this has been brilliant and so helpful - and given me a fantastic starting point. I won’t post too many photos as they have been seen before

The control box - used the arduio board - and then coded through chatgbt! I was struggling but it has helped me program the board to create wider spaced lead in - rec at 6 grooves per mm - and then a push button so I can manually manage the lead out. I put some VU gauges in so I can monitor level coming out the laptop into the amp. I am dragging music into ableton lite - applying an EQ and playing it directly from there

Where I would like some advise from the forum - this is my cutter head - I was so excited build it I rushed things and I’m now not happy with it - should I rebuild straight away or will it still be capable to produce some reasonable results? I am using diamond head - set to 8 degree angle - grooves are roughly 0.8mm wide - how much can be rectified with EQ?

I doubt your grooves are 0.8mm wide? should be more like 0.05mm?
