Improving scrubbing tracking while embossing

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Improving scrubbing tracking while embossing

Hey, fellow trolls.

Curious, I’m using a presto 6n with a sapphire needle on a TKV cutter head, and I’m able to get some shockingly good cuts in terms of audio quality and regular tracking, but it seems when I go to slightly ‘scrub’ the tracks (eg rewind just a bit) the needle always seems to want to jump out of the groove.

Of course I can fix this with a diamond cut, but I’m just curious if there’s a way to improve this with an embossing cut.

Any advice? :)
