Vinylrecorder suction: vacuum or pump?
Six years have passed since I bought my Vinylrecorder from Souri and finaly the Thomas junior vacuum died, not bad. Extremely noisy but efficient. So time has come to purchase a new suction device...
I've been reading older topics about this issue but I still have doubts, could you please recommend me what to buy? I'm not a pro, don't cut records for a living, just as a hobby, so I'm not willing to spend 500€ on a super pro pump.
So I guess my options are an industrial vacuum such as a Kärcher which will probably be noisy (can you recommend me the appropiate model?) or the fish tank pump, right? In this later case, what should I look for? Pressure (-mbar), suction force (litres per hour)?
Help please!

Keep an eye out on ebay for 2nd hand pumps. Got mine for a little over 100eur. Vac noise is really no fun

I have been having a lot of success with this - reasonably priced, powerful, two suction levels (each adjustable) and very quiet.

Dr. Dub... please, can you recommend me brand/model?drdub wrote:a seitenkanalgebläse is the thing you need...
I also thought about the dentist pump, plus it should be already used to "dirty jobs", he, he, ...
In the meantime I'll use a second hand Nilfisk GM 80 vacuum, see how much it lasts...

The one you posted dr dub is 3kw.
My actual vacuum is 1kw and works ok.

Re: Vinylrecorder suction: vacuum or pump?
no idea how much YOU need. ..
- plastik needs more than acetate
- the longer the tubing the more suction you need
- the altitutd ewhere you live plays a role
- how many devices are you using it for (platter suction, swarf only)
- so for studio 2 we bought an even bigger one.
we learned: the bigger --> the more quiet
