A vacation for a Polish friend
There have been a lot of recent dramas and distractions, and offline complaints, surrounding the posts of our "19-year-old whiz kid."
I no longer believe that this was merely a problem of a language barrier. After much consideration, I have temporarily suspended that account.
As I do believe there is someone behind these posts with a sincere interest in constructing cutterheads and lathes, I am hopeful that there can be a sucessful offline conversation about board etiquette that will help things run more smoothly. If so, I will happily allow this person back into the forum.
I do not take suspensions or bans lightly --I think "shunning" really sucks-- and I do my best only to use such things as a last resort. But our time and energy are finite and I want to respect that, too. So, again, I'm thinking of this as a temporary "time-out" or "time-off" for this member, and I hope it will lead to better things down the road.

Re: A vacation for a Polish friend
I am agree with your decision, no time wasters, but the cutting head was many interesting for many reasons...
Re: A vacation for a Polish friend
The cutterhead was interesting. But, we have a lot of very ingenious Trolls here. Many homebrews have been posted. We have a number of very tallented folks. And, we want to keep them around.
I think our Polish intervention was a bit of a distraction. I think a number of threads got cluttered with absolute non-sense that was not helpful to anyone. I feel we were potentially loosing Trolls.
A right and proper decision.

Re: A vacation for a Polish friend
Offline, by email to our friend, I tried to address the idea of some common sense etiquette around here, which might have been summed up as:
1) Please don't use the board as a bounty-hunting organization.
2) Don't refer to longtime Lathe Trolls as "liars" for asking basic reasonable questions at the phone number you provided, using reliable human Polish translators, in their attempts to protect the forum and its members, and maybe even buy your products.
3) Answer reasonable requests about the legitimacy of your claims in a simple, straightforward and reassuring manner.
4) Please don't offer Neumann's proprietary papers, especially in a such a manner (9 briefcases, was it? $12000 cash? no proof? no back story?) that I fear that you might kidnap or kill people a la a Nigerian scam.
**5) Please don't pretend to be a 19-year old female genius instead of a middle-aged man. It just doesn't seem like a harmless conceit. Or, how about this? If you do procure some teen family member or friend for such a task, at least train her to have her story straight, and to have some phone manners. If the situation demands it, use pictures of her, in reasonable everyday clothing, instead of a traceable circa-2008 bikini picture from a London escort service. And then vicariously live out this fantasy in a manner that has some ongoing integrity, a minimum of drama, and doesn't waste others' brief mortal time on this speck in this galaxy.
6) As a corollary to point #1, don't post the names and home addresses of alleged bad customers you intend to destroy.
Seems fair, right? But our Mr. VMS got petulant for some reason, and blocked my email account. We may not be seeing this person again.
That said --and here's the sad part-- Evidence has come to light that they DID actually create a cheap cutterhead and a cheap lathe, that sort of works. Someone here bought one. It's like a Vestax, only even better!!! and much cheaper! I don't know why they didn't bother posting the evidence. I certainly don't mind people linking to it, but caveat emptor in dealing with this person.
---
**As a footnote to point 5, let me affirm: We have a few transgender people on this site. They kick ass, I'm all for 'em on the forum, and I hope it is clear I'm talking about something else here.

Re: A vacation for a Polish friend
I am under the impression that VmsPoland or related party sold at least one of these on ebay, with a sort of homemade lathe. I'm still awaiting word from a forum member on the seller's ebay name.
I've told all that I know. But of course anyone here is allowed to post updates.

Re: A vacation for a Polish friend
I simply mean that if anyone learns of these heads or lathes being sold --if you know more than I know-- please announce it!
This person is not an enemy; I would simply need reassurance that they will not be disruptive before I reactivate their account. I'm happy to support their projects. Maybe it goes without saying, but I try not to hold grudges.

Re: A vacation for a Polish friend
Ah ok, I am agree with you,
I have done a little research and I have discovered that in the forum elektroda.pl there is a member from Poland that spoke about these heads and he said that had produced one in 2007 and the other the same that had put here in forum.
Now I believe that could be the same person; I have sent to him a message through the forum elektroda.pl, but at the moment no response naturally... His nickname is " procesor3d".

Re: A vacation for a Polish friend
That's the same cutterhead. So, being produced in 2007, that would make the supposed super genius girl from Poland 13 years old when she made this head. Anyone else still buying that line of BS? Steve and I both have suspicions about who this person is. There is a name. I won't post it. But, I'm positive this is his cutterhead. I wish this person would have been more honest about things. They might have had something worthwhile to share.

Re: A vacation for a Polish friend
Like I said in a previous post, since there is no proof this turned me off as a buyer, even if the head actually does exist for sale I wouldn't get it for the fact that I can't keep a normal conversation with that crappy translation. We need to hire Columbo to get to the bottom of this.
If you want to buy a modern made cutter head I would suggest to buy Flo's Caruso. Yeah it cost more but Flo is a real dude. And his writing doesn't look like a cat tripping on LSD ran over the keyboard as it trys to chase a dragon or like other. Also did I say Flo is real?
I know we don't want to keep grudges but wtf?
However this has been entertaining. I can see it now....

Re: A vacation for a Polish friend
Had a look at the site on the link Same head aright same photo as well
May be a very Well machined piece of alluminum on a cnc machine
For all we know it may be a mock up with no guts as no one has seen it cutting
May be an opportunist highjacked it from here wanting to cash in on the need for cutter heads
I wouldnt be surprised if the person/author on the polish forum is not even aware of the goings on here
May be a Polish speaking person does a post there so as to make him aware of whats been going on
Lets than see if he responds
Very strange but in this faceless medium of global communications its no surprise
cheers

Re: A vacation for a Polish friend
Any expert in Vestax who can confirm that this is a different head than a Vestax? Klikli, what do you think? (Kli_kli has/had a Vestax.)
One theory I've considered is that the brains of this operation got a hold of a bunch of remaindered heads when that cutter was a flop, and simply modified them. if that. Do I keep saying that? I forget.

Re: A vacation for a Polish friend
The whole thing seems so surreal, to be honest. The bizarre, broken text in whatever language, the fixation on Neumann while flogging a dubcutter, the comically bad MS Paint images... Somebody certainly put a lot of effort into trolling the Trolls.

Re: A vacation for a Polish friend
First of all, I'd like to say that I'm not an expert, only a owner of one Vestax. I think that the cutterhead in the VMSPoland pictures are the same than Vestax, maybe modificated, but due the quality of the supervideos vms share with us, I don't know at all...Steve E. wrote:Any expert in Vestax who can confirm that this is a different head than a Vestax? Ah, but don't forget - first we'll need to post him $550 in cashier's checks to bribe the crooked Nigerian bankers who are holding his money hostage!
