I would personally not pay over $400 for it, but I can easily see the bidding going up to $500-600.
I was looking at another one a while back, the guy was getting offers of $600.
Such is the market these days...

I've bought 4 or 5 of these over the years in similar situations "as is, I don't know how to work it" etc. And every one has had problems with either the amp or the cutting head or both. That being said, if the guy shipped it, it would go for $600+ easy. Since you have to pick it up, I wouldn't be surprised if it sold for the minimum bid. Definitely worth it. If nothing else, get another another head and run it off a solid state amp. I just got the Amp completely overhauled on one for $125. And head repair is $150 or less depending on the problem. I'd bid on this if he shipped it. It looks clean.

A sound sample from someone else's K8 wouldn't do you much good. It's kind of like saying "Can someone send me a recording of the motor sound of their 1956 VW Beetle? I'm thinking of buying a 1956 VW Beetle."

That one had the horseshoe style head, which is not as nice as a 1c or 1d (which would fit on the K8 if you found one), but will still HAS THE POTENTIAL to sound pretty good. And it all depends on the needle/blank material, etc that you use. But with these things, if it says "As-Is, untested", you might as well assume it means "I tried to turn it on and the capacitors fried and started smoking and absolutely nothing worked".

It was a really good deal for $360, mostly because 90% of the potential bidders had no way to pick it up.

yeah I'm bummed I didn't jump on it earlier.
but it's not really worth that to me untested, at this point.
personally if I'm going to have a K series, I'd like it to be original.

I'm pretty sure someone has posted the manual in the reference section and it should have schematics. Most likely if it's not outputting then it needs the capacitors replaced, which isn't a tough job if you can handle a soldering iron. I did my k-10 in a couple of hours for under 50$ and it sounds nice.
Be careful using external amps! the coils in these heads can get fried if you put too much power to them and then you're out some money and/or time getting it rebuilt or learning how to do it yourself. Maybe put a fuse inline with the cutterhead just in case.
