Announcement for lathe-cutters in the UK

We, Bladud Flies!, are pleased to announce that we are the sole official UK supplier of My Shank products.

As you will already be aware, My Shank have spent 4+ years and considerable financial investment into developing a new type of blank for diamond cutting. Essentially these are pressed blank records with the same shape/profile of a pressed record; where they differ is that the plastics used are bespoke and therefore suitable for diamond cutting. There are not just blank records sourced from a pressing plant.

My Shank have built their own pressing plant, which runs on renewable energy. The plastics used are recycled. The pigments are organic. There is a full range of opaque and transparent colours, including a number of marble variants.

This is an exciting new era for the lathe-cutting industry.

Over the last few weeks we have been getting things in order to supply UK lathe-cutters, and we are now expecting our first delivery. We will not be taking any pre-orders and will only open shop once we have stock. We encourage you to send an email to blanks@bladudflies.com to say hello.

LONDON: for people based in or around London, we are partnering with our friends at state51 for those of you who wish to save on postage and collect your orders.

STYLI: we will also be handling all sales and resharpening of styli. My Shank supply and resharpen styli for some of the biggest disc mastering studio’s in the world and have been making styli for 15 years. For resharpening, the entire process will now be a matter of days.

We recently completed our first order with these new blanks. We first started working with Colin from the prestigious Time Released Sound in 2019, and have done several lathe-cut releases with him over the years. Here is what he said about the new blanks used on his latest release:

Next up we completed 50 x 12"s for the NY label SLINK. They were done on these new style blanks too ... lovely bevelled edges and raised place for the centre labels.

And do keep in mind that we will also be offering the MY Shank old plastic blanks too. While stocks last. So if you need them, perhaps for the colours that are not available elsewhere, and 7 and 10" for now, these are an option too.

Hello,
Has anyone else had trouble with cutting these blanks?
I got a box of orange 12" ....they look and feel great, but all seem to have a distinct wobble in them...not good for cutting...one side seems to cut better, the other not being flat enough for a complete groove.
Any helpful suggestions?

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Did you try any of the suggestions that My Shank sent in the email to you this morning?

We haven't had any customers reporting any issues. I've personally cut several hundred of these now -- and all of the variants -- and aside from a couple that required a little heat before cutting -- they have been flat. I am cutting Dark Marble now and it is like a pancake.

Vacuum Platter

It is here and it is a fine piece of precision engineering. Super easy to install on a T560 with the additional parts (supplied with the vacuum platter). Incredibly easy to adapt for each format, and it has 3 screws for levelling adjustment.
