The box of 7" blanks went for $530?! That's $22 apiece! ![Shocked ](./images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)

I guess that's great for the seller, but it's a shame that people don't realize they can be ordered new for a lower price.

Yes but if you want to cut an Elvis outtake onto an "acetate" and sell it to unassuming collectors for $500, then you wil pay that kind of money for an old disc from that period. There are a lot of fake Elvis acetates around and collectors assume it might be an acetate that Elvis himself played on his very own turntable.

Re: NOS Allied 7" and 12" blanks on Ebay
When I bought my lathe years ago, it came with a box of Allied 7" blanks. I used them for test cuts, and to the last one they all went palmitic-acidey within a few years. I should have kept them sealed up and sold them. ![Neutral :|](./images/smilies/icon_neutral.gif)

I have a box of Allied 10" blanks that have actually become gummy. Palmitic acid is the white powdery substance, correct? I've seen that a lot, but these are actually sticky. Anyone know what that's about?

When I started cutting back in the 70's I used a lot of Allieds and yep - about 10 years ago they all started turning palmiticy and nasty. Dang, over $500 for Allieds... ![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

Did your boxes of Allied blanks look like the 7" box in this auction? Mine does, but where the zip code may or may not be is damaged (before or after '63/67). It looks like Allied were in business from '58 to '78; I wonder how often they changed their packaging. It'd help me narrow down the last time my lathe was used before I got it.emorritt wrote:When I started cutting back in the 70's I used a lot of Allieds and yep - about 10 years ago they all started turning palmiticy and nasty. Yes, it's exactly like the box pictured. In fact, I think I still have it somewhere...
