both dictation and entertainment cylinders can be shaved to remove the previous recording, a simple machine, basically a lathe, each pass of the cutter shaves off about a 1,000th of an inch, dictation machines cut quite shallow to allow for lots of recordings, up to 100 on a full size dictation cylinder before it becomes physically too small to use. this is an original machine. i just found an original belt to power the feed screw for the cutter, i have installed the new belt, lubed and tuned it and the machine is purring !!!
