VR T560 with Caruso Head Cable Management
Hello I have a Caruso Head and trying to connected to a VR. Having some problems to attach the main cable from the RIAA to the Head. As it's a tick cable that while cutting is constantly pulling the head causing the weight to fluctuate.
If anyone has experience the same problem and has any solution
Thank you

Re: VR T560 with Caruso Head Cable Management
I am doing mine now! I bought 6 pin DIN connectors and am planning on replacing the current 3 pin ones on the suspension. Going to copy Souri's implementation but with more cabling. This might still cause "pulling" issues but just in case you didn't try it.
Re: VR T560 with Caruso Head Cable Management
Just a question of interest;
Is the Caruso much better than the original VR head? If yes, in what perspective?

Re: VR T560 with Caruso Head Cable Management
well then i guess tehn it's the wrong question." The VR cuts were as good, or better than the commercial cuts. I’ve not found any limitation in low frequencies, and in fact the high end on Souri’s blanks w/diamonds is easier to carry than cutting lacquer w sapphires.

if you cant hear the difference between VR and a commercial cut
maybe you have to rethink playback side first
happy cutting. f.

the best is to go as direct as possible. .Hello I have a Caruso Head and trying to connected to a VR. Having some problems to attach the main cable from the RIAA to the Head. As it's a tick cable that while cutting is constantly pulling the head causing the weight to fluctuate.
If anyone has experience the same problem and has any solution
maybe add some weight on the head. make a slope and fix the cable on the VR.
but in case you want to use an additional cable.
best is if you go for DIN6 pin and follow the neumann pinout.
then you can use flokason standard din to DB15 cables. the dummy head . any neumann head in case you come across one once..you never know.
use twisted pair high flex cables. 10cm max.

there where customers tried to use a simple flat rubbon cable. not the best idea. plus some wrong poinout. the end of life of a nice head...
so double tripple check & beep out before hit the cutter on s

Re: VR T560 with Caruso Head Cable Management
I agree with you it's possible to make great cuts with the VRwrote: ↑Sun May 02, 2021 4:41 pmYa - I’d love to know the answer to this also. I’ve got 3 VR’s, and I haven’t found any source material thus far (7 years) that a good VR cutter head can’t reproduce in both frequency response and stereo width. I’ve had a couple opportunities to compare cuts I’ve done against commercial records that I purchased - these were situations where I was provided the exact same masters used commercially that I cut from. The VR cuts were as good, or better than the commercial cuts. I’ve not found any limitation in low frequencies, and in fact the high end on Souri’s blanks w/diamonds is easier to carry than cutting lacquer w sapphires. Takes a little more finesse w lacquers, but you can get there. Your mileage may vary. It’s just what I’ve experienced.
Although it takes experience, very precise working methods and most desirably a few mods (like different turntable, hum issues)
But in the best circumstances you can indeed make cuts which sound much better than the average pressed records.

Re: VR T560 with Caruso Head Cable Management
You guys are comparing direct cuts to pressed records? If you cut a t560 master and a Neumann master (I do every week) and compared you would hear what this level of head does. Plating/pressing are going to bring down the sound of any head.
As for Caruso, just getting it hooked up so time will tell but excited to cut with it!

Can you elaborate a bit on this? In what way does it sound better?trailerparkjesus wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 12:04 pmYou guys are comparing direct cuts to pressed records? I'm really interested.
I've never cut with a Neumann, only have the VR as reference.
When I compare the original master with the VR cut, it's (at best circumstances) a perfect copy.
Wonder how it can sound better.
Re: VR T560 with Caruso Head Cable Management
Not wishing to move this thread even further from the original point as the pressed Vs VR cuts thing has been done to death, BUT, there are some pretty awful sounding (not to mention warped) pressed records knocking about these days...
Re: VR T560 with Caruso Head Cable Management
sorry to derail, can anyone help me get a Caruso? many emails to Flo have gone unanswered

Hoi, this is our solution for the headwiring, at first we also tried it without going through the din connectors but too much problems with tension of the wiring. we also changed the counterweight to a lighter one.

Re: VR T560 with Caruso Head Cable Management
Thanks! Would it be possible to see what it looks like from that same angle with the cutting stylus touching the disc?
Re: VR T560 with Caruso Head Cable Management
to all cross headers:
in case you gonna have more connectors (only missing connectors are good connectors) i strongly recommend to use twisted pairs for the cables.thin.high flex wires. the shorter the better.
also adding some weight might help, as the head was made light weight to use on simple , cheap overheads.
sorry that i cant give too more advice, as i never had and never will have a vinylrecorder.
warning: to use a caruso head on a VR must be a very blasphemous act and will never bring you to VR heaven.
and as written in a few post above, its seems anyway not be necessary to change: as you already have the best of the best heads.
in case of crossing the border. use good high flex twisted pair cables as short as possible.
happy cutting.

Re: VR T560 with Caruso Head Cable Management
i really can not recommend to modify your VR.
i can not give any support or advice, as i have seen VR's only on pictures.
it seems totally unnecessary to change your beloved VR head.
as reportet you can make similar or even better records with a VR than with any pro lathe. so no reason to change.
please if you have a VR , stay happy with what you have, it was never an intention to fit my products on VR.
not my world.
additionally you might irate the master and worst case he cuts your supply on styli and blanks.
just for any orders.
i am booked out until 2022.
so i cant handle more orders this year.
as always if you order, plwase send me an email
or written order.
no pm or messages on this forum.
happy cutting.
f.
ps. here how i would make the cables.the one without connector is already on the longer side. keep short
