Full Presto 8DG Restoration

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Full Presto 8DG Restoration

Krisd and I just finished this (almost) complete restoration of a ROACHED OUT, Basketcase 8DG... This thing was NASSSSTY. It's been converted over to 33/45 instead of 78, runs right on speed, and has a Feedback Grampian Select cutter head on it. We are in the middle of having a new pulley tree machined for 96-224 pitch options. Everything was dissembled, cleaned within an inch of it's life, replaced any missing parts and upgraded some others, serviced the motors and completely rewired, powder coated and put back together. We also replaced the table top... it was pretty gnarly plastic laminate. Runs GREAT now! The only thing we didn't do is to re-chrome everything. But from 2 feet away it looks BRAND NEW.
