Audiocut vinyl record cutter

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Hi,

Interesting find!

Very nice industrial design concept project for a thesis. Well researched and presented, but I suspect this person does not have any real world engineering skills that would allow him to develop this and bring to market. Certainly not at the $1000-$1500 price point unless he intends to make them on a very large scale in China. On a quick skimming of the paper, I didn't see if he estimated projected engineering, tooling, and prototype costs to complete the project. I also doubt the process could ever be as simple as burning a CD. But you never know.

Mark

The document features aboriginal cultural appropriation, and that is horribly uncool. AVOID

I don't like the use of the American Indian.
What does that have to do with any of this.

Another picture of a hypothetical device on which is mounted an even more fantasy-like cutterhead. He'll probably get 1.5 million in kickstarter cash and vanish like the rest.

for real, that rubs me the wrong way immediately.
not to mention the "look cool" factor totally outweighs any real planning
