Re: Is it hard to find somebody with a Neumann VMS lathe to apprentice for?
HARSH TOKES FROM THE BONG OF REALITY... but 100% accurate. Your only real path forward if you don't have a personal friendship and connection with a mastering engineer is to beg someone to let you empty trashcans and paint the walls for them unpaid for a year or two until they develop enough trust i...

Re: Record Pressing Plants, Gone Broke, Shutdown, Out of Business, Changed Hands
I heard Cascade closed?
I also know of a couple "pressing plants" out there that have closed or slowed considerably due to various issues, but don't tell anyone because they are currently just brokering and don't want anyone to know they aren't pressing themselves.

Hi! I sell a lot of lathes. If you need something mid-fidelity embossing ($1700 and up) or a Really nice, super heavy duty hifi stereo diamond cutting (can be made fully automatic) for $16,000 and up I sell the TKV Stereo Lathes. THere is also a more budget stereo diamond machine priced in between t...

Re: who does zine book lathe cut record
That is Bailey Moses in LA. They were my office manager for years and then ran their own cutting company and then moved to LA and took a lathe with them. They only do personal projects these days as far as I know.

Re: Rec-O-Kut Challenger For Sale on Reverb
Somebody is asking the moon for that if it is completely unrestored. You will 100% need new idlers, to service the head, service the amp, and it's not even a very good lathe to begin with. It's got no crank and a low end head. Can definitely hook someone up with a better lathe for cheaper, restored ...

Re: Did I blow my TKV Cutting head?
The new version of the head with Konsta's hand rolled coils sound AMAZING. Highly recommend anyone with the old version hit him up about an upgrade! I think there are at least 20 of the new Mk 3 version out in the world being used daily.

Have you done business with Mike Dixon?
Hey yall, I've got a couple potential customers who are (understandably) uneasy sending me advance payment for a lathe for delivery. And on the otherside, I can't fly halfway across the world to meet up with a total stranger from the internet to install a lathe without payment. SO.... If you have do...

Re: Where are people located? For meeting up and/or classes
I've been going to Durango and Ouray since I was a kid! Love that area! I do classes in Tucson (www.lathecutcamp.com) and we used to have a yearly Record Cutters Gathering in Ouray, which sort of died out during Covid. MEEP Records is in Denver, and I sold a lathe to someone in Saguache a while back.

Re: Cutting Polycarbonate with a Diamond Stylus?
You should also confirm its ACTUALLY a diamond. A lot of times you see people selling lathes or styli on ebay that are actually old sapphire styli, but because they are clear stones they assume they are diamondsz but diamond styli have really only been made with long/short shanks for about 15 years.

1. This definitely wasn't a scam... just a failed dream 2. Flo's assistant posted on the Record Cutters Guild FB group that he hasn't been involved in the project for several years at this point, nor has Kamran V their US rep despite the fact that they are still on the site. 3. It was a bad look for...

Re: Airline Reproducer Worth It?
search around on the forum a bit for "crystal head", which is what this machine has. I never had one, but they are unpopular 'cause apparently they don't sound great and don't stand the test of time too well... so i'd say this machine will not meet your expectations. follow some of markrob's instru...

Re: Having trouble getting the 'Highs'
What kind of cutting head are you using? A lot of low end heads max out at 8k. also has the head been serviced? Lots of models of heads (audax, presto 5c, radiotone, etc) have rubber around the armature that turns to cement and causes a muffled sound.

Re: Blank polys, where are you??
I sell them, but black poly is harder to come by and more expensive than clear, requires freighting 4x8' sheets from around the country and then paying someone else to cnc them into circles, so my own cost for a 10" is well above $3 not to mention stocking costs, packing/shipping assistant wages, re...

Re: Looking for some small record plant to cut the vinyl/acetate
Try GZ Media in Czech. Their minimum is 100, but it will be cheaper than having someone cut 80 copies in real time.
