Re: Vinyl Record Pressing Plants The raise of the Pheonix and back to ashes?
To expand on what mossboss has said we purchased a plating system from the same company as 1979/The Vinyl Lab. I will keep it vague as I am not looking to name and shame but I can understand why they may have struggled with the plating. We had to make extensive modifications to the system we were so...

Re: Pressing Plant Actual Starting Cost
I forgot to add that I have done the math and in western countries I personally think a 4 auto press plant is the minimum sensible configuration. Efficiencies of scale are very important in this business and it's very difficult to make money out of two presses. With 4 presses your costs per unit are...

Re: Pressing Plant Actual Starting Cost
I have always been happy to assist newcomers with technical advice and along the way I have had many requests for help with pricing, margins and general business. Unfortunately these requests always seem to come AFTER space has been leased and presses ordered which I find somewhat astonishing and ir...

Re: Two Questions About Two Machines (Presses - Warmtone and Pheenix)
(Mod note… title updated for specificity and clarity) First, the Warmtone - We have consistent sticking issues where the pressed record won't release from the bottom stamper. The weird thing is that it's not a process thing - it seems to be static electricity that's holding the record down. When we...

Re: In need of tips, advice and suggestions for pressing records
Is the stitching happening randomly with a set of stampers that mostly doesn't cause this, or are certain stampers always causing it no matter what you tweak? Stitching is attributed by Mobineko to stamper[/cut] issues ('horns that grab the vinyl (on release)...') Whereas, Mossboss and others link ...

Re: High capacity automatic record press
5 seconds is not enough time to properly mould a 12" PVC record either by injection or compression moulding. If you have some working prototype that can mould a large thin flat part with 3D details like this in 5 seconds then forget about vinyl pressing, I know people in automative and optical indus...

Re: Looking for Mouldholder
Hello llary, Yes i have realised from the start the equipement is not optimal for record pressing and it has been a fight till this point and will continue like that till the finish line too with numerous (major) set backs. Which is one of the reasons i am doing this on a hobby level to reduce risk...

Re: Newbilt extruder - changing colours waste
PVC cleaner in my experience is more expensive than just running clear compound through the barrel. Minimizing waste is more of an operational thing than technical - plan your jobs carefully to group similar colors, only purge material if and when absolutely necessary. Work from lighter to darker co...

Re: Looking for Mouldholder
Hi Jacob, I design and build record presses commercially, I can maybe give you a few pointers to save time. As you probably realized the equipment you have is not really optimal for record pressing and you will have to fight against your equipment for a good end result. It's not impossible but perso...

Re: Cracked Labels
Your puck is too cold, what PVC supplier are you using? Do you have any idea what the gearbox ratio is on your machine because motor rpm is not a very helpful indicator? We really need to know the actual screw rpm. What happens if you use unprinted white labels? Are the printed labels offset printed...

Re: 7" pressing on a newbilt semi-automatic
I'm not familiar with the newbilt software but we run 7" on a rebuilt Finebilt which is basically the same thing mechanically. What are your cooling water and steam temperatures? The Newbilt interface is not so clear, is the "heating" part a dwell time (no water or steam) or is steam still being run...

Re: Label issues
2) When (and why) is this process required for some stampers? I appreciate any help you can provide. Sanding the label area is done to reduce the contact surface area between mould and stamper so there is less heat transferred to the label. The opposite is true for the back of the groove area which...

Re: Label issues
stamper sanded well enough under label? We never tried it before, but it worked! Thanks. But I have some questions: 1) What's the best way to do that without screwing up the stamper? 2) When (and why) is this process required for some stampers? I appreciate any help you can provide. It’s not done o...

Manual or automatic press? If manual are you leaving hot pucks sitting around before pressing?filiperibeiro wrote: ↑Thu Aug 18, 2022 10:28 amstill on this subject of labels: has anyone ever encountered the following problem: the glue of the labels smears to the side and the stamper gets a stain like this.

Re: Pressing Delays: What's the hold up?
It's basically a question of supply vs demand and I don't think Apollo or Covid (or timecode discs) have much to do with it. There has been a massive surge in popularity of vinyl records over the last few years and I think overall this is positive for our business. Who wants to be working in a dying...
