Hi Craig,
Glad you started getting it to work. It is a nice lathe. Not sure how good of recording that old style cutter head will yield, but you could always put a modern head on it. Please keep us posted, Rick.

Thanks Tom for the info. I have a manual on order, so I can then see if the arm can be adjusted (looking at it, I see no adjustments). Thank you, Rick.

Wtb: Presto (or other) recorder head amp

Hi all yet again :) I forgot to ask what types of mono amps can I use with the Presto 6N? Does anyone here (or know someone that would) have a good condition, working or non-working amp for sale that will work with this 6N? The cutter head is a Presto 1C. One with an output/ volume meter would be he...

Presto 6N playback arm questions

Hi all, The 6N I just bought has the original tone arm, which is very heavy and has a set screw type needle (which I guess is a victrola type nail? Please see for sale section of this group). That would be good for 78's, but not for 33's. Can this arm be either lightened; a newer cartridge installed...

WTB. Presto 6N cabinet lid and playback needle

Hi All, I just bought a nice Presto 6N Lathe, but with no lid. Is anyone here (or know someone that is) parting out a 6N or another Presto model that uses the same lid? Need not be perfect cosmetically, but sound construction and has all of its clips/ hinges that mate with the ones on the lower cabi...

Hi all, Any interest in this lathe? I think i'll sell it and stick with a more traditional lathe. Don't want to butcher up this one to do mods so I can use it. It is a better museum piece for someone's collection than for me trying to make it run without the proper support equipment. I would sell it...

Hi all, I just found out some more info from NICHOLAS BERGH who is very knowledgeable in "the sound industry" in LA" and says that "my Paramount Lathe was not used to record Vitaphone disc soundtracks, but rather synchronous music recording for playback on the set. It is probably from the late 1930s...
