Re: Can't see much through VMS80 microscope. Any ideas?
a proper service might be good for your lathe. better sooner than later.
i guess the microscope darkening is a detail .
those 80ies reached end of life. so expect much more stuff to come than
fading images...
if in europe (and not in england) you can pm or better mail me.
happy cutting.

Plastic is the new vinyl!
interesting you know it’s made out of plastic!
But to stop fake news in the beginning I can confirm that all of the existing units are to 95% mainly made in nice metal .

There is no RF heating..
The hf pattern is a side effect caused by copper.stylus geometry and torque tube.it was a very clever move from teldec to claim it as an invention...but it just happens..

Re: What does it take to 'blow a head' ??
On a vms80 I guess you have an sal74b rack and sx74 head. Make sure your rack is in top condition.tested and recapped.the amps like to oscillate at 1-2Mhz and your drive coils don’t like.. Also cables connectors like some attention and tweaks... If not send the two amp channels to someone who knows ...

Re: LS-76
i know the papers. i had many of these amps passing my desk.... However, in the Ortofon amps, they often won't even work unless the calibrated .. this is just not true. some companies use potis to adjust ortofon other use fixed resistors. but its just fien tunikg to make it better. or to adjust. if ...

Re: LS-76
(The tools and know-how required for DSS cutting head repair have only been offered by etec, as far as we know, and, the amps are engineered in such as way that a circuit card from one chassis may not work in the other chassis if you swapped them, because auxiliary components need to be added in pa...

Re: VR T560 with Caruso Head Cable Management
thats how to do. if you do different it might cause problems. i use 0.12mm2 or 0.14mm2. in case of 0.12mm2 its 65x 0.05 wire. drive coil is a 0.1mm wire. so plenty of reserve as long as you keep it as short as possible. 5-8cm max. but i also use often a direct cable on old school recorders without t...

Re: VR T560 with Caruso Head Cable Management
i really can not recommend to modify your VR. i can not give any support or advice, as i have seen VR's only on pictures. it seems totally unnecessary to change your beloved VR head. as reportet you can make similar or even better records with a VR than with any pro lathe. so no reason to change. pl...

Re: VR T560 with Caruso Head Cable Management
to all cross headers: in case you gonna have more connectors (only missing connectors are good connectors) i strongly recommend to use twisted pairs for the cables.thin.high flex wires. the shorter the better. also adding some weight might help, as the head was made light weight to use on simple , c...

Re: VR T560 with Caruso Head Cable Management

" The VR cuts were as good, or better than the commercial cuts. I’ve not found any limitation in low frequencies, and in fact the high end on Souri’s blanks w/diamonds is easier to carry than cutting lacquer w sapphires. " well then i guess tehn it's the wrong question. if you cant hear the differe...

Re: SX68 on ebay
fair price is 3-6k. as you have to count in a 4k repair sooner or later. if still original the FBcoils will go for sure even not used. the end of wire is marked with some collor and this will corrode. also the epoxy glue has so much shrinking after 40-50 years...most of the magent systems might be i...
