Re: K 8 Tire

Interesting take using silicon and forming it with the platter turning. Does it bond well with rubber? My first thought is it would dry out and fall off of the original rubber tire.

I think that user meant emery - the mineral, like an emery board used to smooth fingernails.

Re: K 8 Tire

I looked into use of a V belt from the hardware store and ran into several barriers. First, the width of the belts are too large to fit the belt with the tapered side out. Second, if the tapered side was pointed into the groove on the platter you have the regular outer side exposed which is typicall...

Re: K 8 Tire

No disrespect intended to anyone, just a very odd thing to see this particular thread get a response after 7 years. There are much newer threads on this topic including one I started in the past 3 months because I have this very issue. Although I'm not sure 45rpmdude is referring to a K8, sounds mor...

Re: Hello from Tokyo!

Love the Japanese cutters! I've seen pictures elsewhere here on the board but don't remember reading that the platter moves to cut instead of the arm for the Vanrock. Your sample sounds really nice. I'd love to see a full scan of the instruction manual if you would be willing to scan/share, just loo...

Re: bearing for cutter arm and spring 4 presto

What is a Presto MC 41? I'm not familiar with this model number or reference. I've seen you use it before when discussing the cutting head and repairs.

In terms of bearings, you should be able to go to a hardware store and purchase an adequate replacement, if not you can try an auto repair store.

According to a patent search on Google, the first patent for a burnished facet cutting stylus was filed in 1947.

Re: Legal Question

Sounds like you're on the right track. Discuss your concerns with the seller that the item is not as described in the eBay listing. Usually sellers will try to work something out with buyers regarding such issues. It'll be up to the seller what remediation he/she takes including nothing, partial ref...

Hi Steve, your tag words should be in the title, not the listing. Most folks don't search both the auction title and description, just the title.

Re: Fundraising Auction: Apollo 14-inch lacquer masters on e

Use more buzz words in the title of your next auction and don't put US Only, you can simply exclude anyone not in the US from the auction and indicate in the description that it is US only. I'd definitely include words like - record lathe Neumann Scully Audiodisc blank lacquer masters. Use every sin...

Re: What kind of presto cutters are these?

The first one looks like a 75a but I'm not familiar with the switch in the one photo that says 220v on it. Can you take a picture of the entire machine with the lid off? I'm also not familiar with the knurled knob next to the speed connector on the first one (I have a 75a and I'm pretty sure that's ...

Two parallel grooves into one groove has been done with the new Jack White album. Go to 4:00 to hear about it. Watch the whole video for the full menagerie of elements to this record from inside out to locked grooves etc.

Re: Dusty Old Stand Mounted Presto

As mentioned, definitely a Presto 75 machine. They sold these as part of a portable set called the Y-2 model which came with a 75-A in a suitcase and a 87-A amplifier/speaker. Looks like your 75-A was remounted or custom mounted in that cabinet. Great looking set up! This table cuts inside out and o...

@ tragwag - Did you use heat when cutting? Overhead bulb or stylus heater? I bought some LDs recently as part of some experimentation if I ever get a lathe up and running.
