Any Ideas Help

Hi Cuttercollector: Just reading over your thoughts. I have gone over the turntable height to angle by putting thin paper under the disc that drives the cutter carriage and making sure the fit was even all way around. Seamed ok. However I'll check that again. What your saying makes a lot of sense to...

Any Ideas Help :)

Hello everyone: So the deal is this. I've done pretty good at cutting 78's. Now I've tackled 33Rpm microgroove. I've now this same problem 3 times with damage to stylus each time. After anywhere from 1 to 3 sortoff successful cuts. The stylus has then started to bounce on disc. Cutting through and w...

Record Lathes

Hi: Just my two cents worth here. I suspect 95% of the battle in record cutting is total understanding of the equipment and how to properly use it. Good cuts can be made with most vintage proffessional equipment and even pretty decent cuts on the home equipment. A good working knowlege of both elect...

Feedscrew 6N

Hi: I researched this a little myself. If you cut in further the cutting head comes up against the carriage drive disc at the center and raises the head off the record. I got a couple additional leadscrews and can cut at 112Lpi, 136Lpi, 224Lpi. You can get more time in the same amount of space this ...

Beam Of Light

Hey Cuttercollector: We should chat sometime. I bet we have a lot in common in our intrests of old technology. :) Pretty realistic reproduction can be had from 100 to 6K Is it hi fi? Nope. But not all that bad. The old acdemy motion picture sound track fell into this area with it's pre and post eq. ...

Deam Of Light Pickup

ok, I dont get the principle behind this then.... Not obvious what the jewel is for. I thought that the mirror reflected the grooves upon the cell... Hi: Not very mysterious. The stylus what they call a jewel is mechanically connected to a mirror that is on flexible mounts. A light beam from what i...

Cuttercollector you make an interesting point. Probably not a solid answere to why we take on this vintage gear. I bet everyone of us has a different reason. Cutting records was something I was interested in as teen. Oh! By the way I'm just 5 years older then you. :) I was fooling around with old ho...

Both white and altec made cut only equalizers they are really nice. Yep cutting the peaks is the way to go then raise the overall level if you have to. I've only done eq on motion picture theatre auditoriums which are much different but it takes a lot of power to raise the level of one frequency. I'...

Hi Jay:

I have been told that all proffessional sound cards are designed to work through a mixer preamp " Mackie " whatever. I go from my M Audio 192A to a preamp and not directly to an amp.

Hi Karl: Ah! Ya hit a nerve here with me. :) I like to see equipment kept intact as much as possible. I've spent most my life in another feild but with the same issues. What really bugs me is the people who know nothing about vacuum tube electronics except for having read that they "Have awesome vac...

Presto Styli

Hi Jay: Just give Apollo a call. As I remember from my conversation with them last week. That the styli should be coming in soon. I ordered one at the time along with some blanks. As far a monopoly goes hardly. There is really not much demand for blanks and styli in the whole scheme of things. Frank...

Presto Styli

Hi Karl: I admire your cutting stylus creativity. :) Back when the world and I were young. I tried to make a cylinder record from candle wax drippings and used a pin on the end of a cup to cut the thing. Needless to say the results were less then admirable. :D Before you get you new stylus. I'd see ...

Presto Styli

I'm not sure if the Audak is long or short shank. #462 is the long shank.

Anyway Apollo has purchased Transco. I was told by Apollo that it may be a few weeks before the Transco styli are available. I was they do plan to sell them. Blanks are available also.

Hope this helps. :)

Hi Jay: I'll weigh in with a few coments and cuttercollector you can correct any possible errors. :) Re: The 1C Head. 0DB is equal to 4 volts at the head into the 15 ohm cutter. Hi Jay: Me thinks there may be some other issue with amount of gain. As the 1C head can work quite well with a 10 watt amp. I'd say the 100 watt your using is a great plenty. Sounds like you must be losing signal. Possibly do to a bad amp but not due to it being only 100 watts and getting a higher w...

Hey Cuttercollector: I'll email you sometime. It's good to have people like you on the board who can articulate an issue.
