100% pure LP
Hello everyone, To make a long story short, I was talking with a japanese friend on the Internet the other day. We talked about Toyo Kasei (thanks to Larry Boden- Basic Disc Mastering plant list). Finally that lead us to a PDF file with articles about analog records in general and interviews of Toyo...

Re: Is Caruso head ?
Haha it's far from being a silly question. I guess there is no straight answer. In the article, they ask themselves if they have to say "un burin de gravure" or "une tête de gravure" regarding cutting heads in general. Personally, "un burin" (chisel) makes me think of a stone carving tool so I would...

Re: Is Caruso head ?
My bad I didn't see the pictures in this blog were posted in May. One article has already been published page 8 of the PDF here (summer 2013) : http://starwaxmag.com/wp-content/themes/starwaxmag/images/illustrations/magazine/SW27_pdf_42p_Ldef01.pdf It introduces Hervé de Kéroullas (DK mastering engi...

Re: Is Caruso head ?
Yeah seems to be a caruso head. For those who don't speak french and to sum up the first lines : it talks about someone from Star Wax (paper about DJ culture, cratediggin...etc http://starwaxmag.com/ ) who went at DK mastering for an interview that will be published in the next number. It seems that...

Re: Studiorp lathe
Would you mind telling which model? The other day I bought a vestax pdx2000 for parts. I dismounted the motor. Well in fact, platter + parts that links the spindle to the platter + bottom of the motor that holds the "tachometer system". I've come to the conclusion that it is not a good start for a D...

Re: Direct Disk
Just to reply to something I was asking earlier : For those who want to scan records cover or something larger than an A4 document, Microsoft ICE software can give pretty good results. It can combine several images. A bit time consuming though :) http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/groups/...

Re: Direct Disk
Thanks for your input again mossboss. Very interesting. I hope you will find your notes :) I don't know if I'm allowed to post a link to Discogs but for those who are curious about how a direct disk can sound here is the link to the Toshiba-EMI series : http://www.discogs.com/label/Pro-Use+Direct+Cu...

Re: Direct Disk
I guess it's easier to deal with a band of japanese jazzmen with a lot of self-discipline :) In another page of the booklet there are few comments about engineer skills regarding this track or that track. Nothing really interesting for (very) experienced member here but I will scan it and post it la...

Re: trying to make contact with someone from Vinylium
Slightly off-topic but did someone got an answer from the contact form at Vinylike recently?
I've noticed that a red "out of stock" logo appeared next to some products. I was wondering if they would be back in stock in a near future.

Direct Disk
Hello, I went digging yesterday. Afterwards I realized I bought a "direct disk" record with a nice booklet inside. As there are some pictures of a cutting room and a VMS lathe I decided to scan one page and to create this topic. Regarding the pictures, I don't know if it's an optical illusion but it...

Re: There are no dumb questions
Hello everybody, First post here  On many boards there's often a section for beginners or newbies. What about creating one? For instance people like me could ask dumb questions without feeling ashamed. Experienced members who are bored of reading and answering basic questions would just not wa...
