Re: My DIY Lathe recorder from scratch
Hi fanelx, Thanks for sharing your video, it was useful to understand what you have now and what your ideas are regarding your v3 cutter head. As you already mentioned, the V-Spring is waaaaaay too loose, and it will do very little in supporting the torque tube and controlling it's motions adequatel...

Re: Have you done business with Mike Dixon?
Hi from the Gold Coast, Australia, I ordered a sapphire embossing cone for my v1 lathe from Mike Dixon a while back now. It arrived well packaged with clear instructions and even included a sample embossed hybrid CD with both digital and analog recordings! Can vouch for Mike to deliver the goods. Re...

Re: The First STEREO CUTTER HEAD S001 BLUETOOTH
Unless your bluetooth receiver and transmitter is aptX lossless capable, why on earth would you introduce yet another codec (compression + decompression) in the signal path? Concerned about what type of (cheap) SOIC / TSSOP amp is driving the cutter head, Class D? I'll stop, so many questions to be ...

Re: Vanrock E-101 High Frequency Noise
It seems pretty severe, sounds like digital (EMF) interference to me. How close is your mobile phone / WiFi / cellular tower? You mentioned this happens with no input connected, otherwise I'd advise to look at your USB cable for your sound card. I'm not sure how well these units are shielded, is the...

Re: Professional vinyl record lathe step by step
Hi zdenek, Trying to follow this thread but it reads like a train wreck! For the benefit of everyone here, could you please summarize your project so far? * Looks like you got someone else to construct the majority of it. Have you a working lathe now? * Have you any decent audio samples of a recordi...

Re: Irregular Groove Spacing on DIY Lathe – Need Help Diagnosing the Cause
I had this issue prior to upgrading to a better lead screw, but I can see you already have a decent one in place..? Mechanically, (ideally) the record lathe carriage should move laterally consistently, however the groove pattern suggests there is some (small sine wave) oscillation in that lateral mo...

Re: My DIY Lathe recorder from scratch
Hey firstly, nice build. 3D printed parts can be a bit different to work with but keep going! Some have already offered sound advice regarding embossing onto Polycarbonate or PETG instead of acrylic, and the reduction of mass is critical on the moving parts of the cutterhead. The V-String torque tub...

Re: Working on some CAD and looking for feedback
Hi, Nice initial designs you have there. Are you aiming to emboss or cut? I found that the DAEX25FHE drivers were still too weak for my particular cutter head design(s), even after upping to the 25mm from the smaller (19mm?) drivers. I prototyped two heads with those (25mm) drivers and found quite a...

Re: G.C.M.R Record Lathe
Forgot to mention I've written an app to help the above Auto LPI work, it's crude but works. If there is any interest from anyone I can post the source up on Github to share however it's quite custom as I mentioned, it sends GCODE to my lathe to adjust the LPI... Happy cutting! p.s. Those LPI values...

Re: G.C.M.R Record Lathe
Good sleuthing regarding the rake angle based of other T560s. During the initial investigation phase, I looked everywhere to find (any) cutter head images to reverse engineer this (and other angles / techniques). I did find some T560 that had quite an aggressive rake angle and finally settled on My ...

Re: G.C.M.R Record Lathe
Hi Thelatheofus, Some great questions here: * Experience with 3D printing * Not too much recently (this decade) until a purchased my SnapMaker (thinking I was going to use the CNC head predominately) About 12yrs ago, was gifted an 'almost working' rep-rap / huxley style 3D printer. I worked on that ...

Automation Update: Completed a box for our PSU and I decided to combo it with computer controlled relay switching module for our Vacuum and Stylus Heating, thus automating both functions into the (already automated) cutting sequence. Closer image of the vacuum metal straw / tube setup with additiona...

Re: G.C.M.R Record Lathe
Update: I ended up re-visiting the EQ and stereo image tuning on my processor late last night, did another test cut this morning. I've always had the comment (throughout my audio career if you could call it that) that my mixes are a bit too bass heavy, as it's my preference being an EDM junkie, a pe...

Re: G.C.M.R Record Lathe
Hi Jim! Thanks again for your support and excellent write up. Yes I definitely use a vacuum setup, it was quite the challenge to get the correct curvature in the metal straw I used vs the printed attachments that I used to couple it to the lathe. I ended up printing and additional rail that allowed ...

Re: G.C.M.R Record Lathe
great work! how did you get on with the Airpot? I've got one and plan to use it on my lathe but some of the fixings seem like they might have some play in them.... we're not sure if it'll be a problem or not.... The airpot was a game changer. I have read other swear by an oil based dashpot and it m...

Cutter head, yes the one on the right, have completed as it's destined to be my spare. The completed working one is on the lathe right now.
Lead screw: It's the accuracy of the linear motion that is by far superior to the threaded row, noise wise time will tell if there is a real issue here or not.

G.C.M.R Record Lathe
Hi everyone, Well I think the journey is finally over and I am finally comfortable enough to claim that I've made a working, professional sounding record lathe. It's been just over 14 months from the initial idea to the final "called it" stage I reached over the weekend. The hand made prototype was ...

Biquad calculator - Sigma Studio Compatible
Hi everyone, I've been busy 'head down bum up' as we would say here down under in Australia. With a milestone reached on our processor (many thanks to @grooveguy for the fantastic DSP base work here) it's time to give back to the community. What I found when implementing DSP using an ADAU1701 / Anal...
