Re: The dark art of diamond sharpening
There are ways to achieve such a small radius. This can be achieved more easily by sharpening the knife so that the blade is not close to 0° sharpness. Instead, leave a 2-4 micron grinding surface. The rest of the grinding is left to a copper plate [for dmm], which polishes the edges during operatio...

Re: The dark art of diamond sharpening
There's a bit of light reflection, but it looks good to me. I wouldn't worry too much about the grind angle; if you stay within a tolerance of +/- 5%, you'll be fine. The rake edge [the knife radius, the tip, and the top of the knife] is very important. Various values of 2-4 microns are given. The...

Re: SC99 NINGA head transducters clone for sale.
Here's a recording of a so-called DMM plate made of rolled and mirror-polished copper sheet. The transducers used were NINGA with an additional external 40 kHz modulator. The cutting knife was diamond. The system used was the SAL74B [a faithful copy].This is an authentic, real recording with NINGA D...

Re: Stereo Professional Cutting Head and System
Without this head protection system, you won't achieve much. Your head won't be working for long, my head won't be working for long. Sometimes my head works for 0.01 seconds without this system.... But it's a lot of work constantly connecting experimental heads with feedback to this SEL CB system, s...

Re: HOT BUTTER / POPCORN / DARK AUDACITY
Great recording!
Also uplifting!
I'll try to record the same thing with my professional NINGA head, but I need to prepare for that, maybe in a few days you'll hear it in stereo on a copper DMM plate. [I've been busy with other things lately and don't have much time]

The new factory speakers fell apart after three minutes. The voice coils didn't even burn out, but the glue quickly evaporated and everything started rattling.

I recently visited a seller of vinyl record cutting knives [he sold me quartz knives, they were supposed to be made of diamonds...], he was very surprised by my visit.
Someone visited him before me.

Re: Upgrading a DIY Cutterhead
Oh my, buddy! Your cutting head records better than the original DMM recordings made with the original SX84 heads. Keep it up, and you'll surely go far and compete with many head manufacturers! I even had the opportunity to listen to a recording with a Swiss-made cutting head, and I can compare! You...

Re: The dark art of diamond sharpening
CBN is called BORAZON in my country, it has a factory hardness stamped as K10 [i.e. diamond] BUT IT IS NOT A DIAMOND, it looks like a black diamond, but it does not have a diamond structure.
From such a turning tool, so from this BORAZON I make knives for cutting copper plates

Re: The dark art of diamond sharpening
In the case of DMM, the cutting knife heats itself due to friction, and after cutting a 20-minute recording in copper, the copper plate is warm even though no one heated it. With MASTER APOLLO varnishes, the knife must be heated, which significantly smoothes the surface and the noise is practically ...

Re: The dark art of diamond sharpening
It's worth taking a look at this cutting machine. This isn't some aluminum toy. The machine is made of steel and very stiff cast iron. Everything is very rigid. I can easily turn steel with this carousel lathe. The shaft bearings are hydrodynamic bearings running in oil. The entire machine, includin...

Re: The dark art of diamond sharpening
If you really want to be sure that only genuine Apollo aluminum plates coated with a special soft laquer are available, you should buy ONE APOLLO DISC to test your knives. It's a waste of time on various plastic blanks [and polycarbonate is not suitable for cutting at all; it's a disaster for a knif...

Re: The dark art of diamond sharpening
I stopped worrying about knives with artificial diamonds, because CBN is easier to grind with diamond discs and practically lasts on copper for the same amount of time, but diamond is 100 times more expensive, so for experiments I buy such used CBN knives [they turn hardened steel] for $ 10 for 10 ...
