Did you manage to figure this out? I am having the exact same issue. Ordered a new Diamond stylus and i also get that sound. I am almost giving up on the ATOM. Stylus is from Myshank.com with Yamadan's heating tool kit.

Thank you for your response. So to confirm you are telling me that the heating element and that I can attach the cutting diamond with the wires for heating to the screw on top of the head. Will that be enough for Myshank blanks? I am a newbie... hence such questions.
