Re: Scam Alert Ebay Record Lathes Vanrock and Hara

Scammers have discovered lathes now too hey?...already very known in tapemachine world, i can smell them from miles away. Often on ebay the “seller is away”, if the listing is an auction it only runs for a day/max 3...if its a fixed price its always way too good to be true. They often have a pictur...

Re: Circuit Breaker value for Presto 1D

500mA fast-blow fuse is a real safe value for the head and as long you cut with flat eq you will get loud cuts. But things change when you play with the eq and try to optimize the sound. When you boost the highs then the 500mA are not enough and you have to go up 1A but thats not good for the coils....

Re: Hi, starting new projet need advices and help :)

I supoose all these phone messages are all in MONO format. With a bandwidth of 300-5kHz you have plenty of options for the exact purpose. You can choose between older Prestos , RekOKuts etc and also the old Hara lathes! In my opinion Hara is the best option as they are all-in-one , small , portable ...

...i already passed the 12 hours of embossing (!) and yes, still sound good, sound is still clear with no noticable distortion. I only noticed and increase of background noise on the inner groove , not that bad actually

Re: New Embossing Stylus!

..while working on my 5th release (12" vinyl - 45min total) . I thought i will check the lifespan of the stylus. Well i have passed 6 hours of embossing and frequency sound as good as it started. Background noise still the same low. I emboss a 2.5mil groove and the stylus is setted at 87°! ..so far ...

The fact that its fast, indicates that its not the motor as it would typically slow down with age as bearings gum up with dirt and age, increasing load.
This lathe originally runs @45rpm so when i run it at 60Hz , speed is lower than 45rpm.

Re: 100Hz hum: Motor noise?

Im not really sure but i i i did locked it to 33rpm when it was running @48Hz.
This mini lathe ment to be portable and thats the main reason i bought it. I'm planning to use it in places without the worry of carrying/missing an vfd.

Re: Scam: Vortex "Disc Cutting" System

Why would you build a $3,000 machine and then use a $200 turntable? I don't know turntables very well but that doesn't look like the higher end models that most people use. Something similar happens with many VR T560 users. They spend lot of money buying a VR and they use a cheap TT which is not ca...

Re: 100Hz hum: Motor noise?

The motor is a sync 10V and is directly connected (through a switch) to the main transformer. Using a speedcontroller (vfd) i run the lathe at 50hz , then the speed is abit faster than 33rpm. When i run the lathe at 60hz then the speed is lower than 45rpm . Capstan looks ok , little dirt but not wor...
