Re: Presto 8dg refurb. (Lathe porn)

I am still trying to build the relay element for the third motor as mine was missing. I would like to know if I can just swap out the 78 motor for a later 45 one if I can find one for sale . I drew out a schematic of the 45rpm adapter plate, was that you? I think switching one side of the transmiss...

Re: Arduino Pitch Controller

Ive been playing around with the sketch, but im as green as they come to arduino so my first attempts at modifying the sketch failed. I attempted too add a different larger screen and it compiled, but it didn't function. So i picked up a book to read on the subject. Hopefully that helps me wrap my h...

Re: Presto 8dg refurb. (Lathe porn)

I do have a quick question on the buck converter. Will it do step up conversion as well? It seems as it would. No. That specific one is down only. You can buy one that is up, down or both. Each version has it's own application... I don't know what current you need for the other motor you mentioned....

Im asking because this arduino set up has a 12v motor into the motor sheild and my motor runs 35v i believe. So im thinking id put a step up before it in this diagram

Re: Presto 8dg refurb. (Lathe porn)

Would you have a schematic of the dual supply for the solenoid? I can work up a schematic for you with stuff you can buy cheap on E-bay. I did something like this to run a valve on my freeze dryer a year or two ago. I see from one of your photos that the solenoid has two wires, uses 12v and says it...

Re: Presto 8dg refurb. (Lathe porn)

Would you have a scematic of the dual supply for the solenoid? On mine, the dashpot was modified to accomodate a 2b head. In that circumstance i think a dashpot is going to be needed. With the plate i had to craft for the smaller heads, they weigh a bit more as well. But i haven't cut actual music y...

Re: Arduino Pitch Controller

Is there a head lift function or would that be controlled outside the arduino?

Re: Presto 8dg refurb. (Lathe porn)

Hey, sameal, good progress! With respect to the lift solenoid, I've used those a lot in tape transports and know that they really like to provide snap action, although you should be able to servo one, or at least contour the current into it for more gentle operation. My old Nikon point-and-shoot ca...

Re: Presto 8dg refurb. (Lathe porn)

I built a lift solenoid for the presto carriage. It does work, but either the solenoid i have is crappy or 12v 500ma is too weak to drive it strong. Every fourth cycle it seems to jitter and not fire. Then, because this lathe was modified to hold a giant 2b head, the smaller heads not only do not si...

Re: Presto 8dg refurb. (Lathe porn)

your pitch control system and dashpot assembly are of most interest to me just now - I have no idea how mine are supposed to work! but this looks at least a little bit similar. On another thread i saw a video with the inner workings of an 8D that had a very complex looking system of belts and pulle...

Re: Critisize my swarf tube.

0.005" was recommended several times by Markrob and I believe is also the size noted in an old lathe/head manual I read. I can't remeber what i ordered. I think it was .009, which would explain it. Not sure where i messed that up. Ill look around for that, and measure my coil too make sure i didn't...

Re: Critisize my swarf tube.

First off...holy crap that heater wire is thick! Did you pull that out of the wall and wrap it around your jewel? Looks like it comes in contact with the shank too, I don't think that's a good thing. As for your tube, looks pretty sharp and jagged to me. The front looks like it was cut with a dull ...

Vacuum platter issues.

Basically, my vac platter is doing sweet F.A. My thoughts are that when this was originally modified, the intent was to model a scully selectable vac platter, as the center spindle has two air holes that line up with only two of the air holes in the pocket the center spindle puck sits in. Meaning yo...

Critisize my swarf tube.

Seriously give it hell. And my spelling and punctuation for that matter. Ive made some test cuts and the tube does pick up some swarf, so there's a little win there, but it will eventually leave a tail swirling on the record surface. I think i need to flatten the tube more, and get closer to the sty...

Fairchild 645 power supply

I know someone selling this fairchild 645 power supply. Im posting to gauge interest.

It's just the power supply, it weighs 70lbs, so shipping is going to be rough. It's in milwaukee, pickup is encouraged.

He would like to start the price at $2500. Open to offers
