Re: Embossing tech - talk
I can confirm that I never have had any tracking problems with soundscriber discs on modern turntables. Sometimes it can be neccesary to adjust the weight a bit. On the Model 200, it is actually also possible to adjust the embossing depth - a neat feature! I am talking about the newest soudscriber m...

Re: Embossing tech - talk
the whole issue of embossing was 'solved' many years ago by the soundscriber corp. Their latest portable models embossed with a tiny tiny diamond stylus, permanently installed. ie. it could be used for many many hours of dication. Frequency response of these are up to around 8 khz, and could possibl...

Re: Embossing on X-ray
x ray sheets, I believe, are not suited at all for embossing
what could lead some to think that is of course the many russian embossed x ray sheets.
But none of these were embossed, they were used a medium for a flexidisc ie. stamped in hot letterpress type machine from a cutted master

Re: Attempting to cut the World's Largest Record
was just some thoughts regarding this I imagined a hill and dale record (mono) as most suitable. But if you have a recording head done that's awesome! Going to be exciting to see what come out of this! I have seen picures of, I belive 24 inch records, used on broadcasting, never seen anything bigger...

Re: Attempting to cut the World's Largest Record
skip all the problems involved in cutting and either lasercut/ or CNC a hill and dale record (made of plastic) This will be low fidelty and mono, but, I think fine for this project. Then the challange is to make a playback device, a standard pickup could be used, and some motor as turntable. You wou...

Re: Dicatphon. approx 1970. edison style on sheets
nice find I have the exact same machine it was missing the tape though I made a 'belt' out of long strips of standard reel to reel tape and adhesive tape - works fine! fidelity is low, but probably the same as with a orginal belt A nice feature is the repeat function (mechanical stop) which allows l...

Re: Gelatine Foil Records
I have since seen a large collection of these types of blanks - many colours, thickness differneces etc.
in perfectly good shape, opposed to the ones in the picture.
Conclusion must be that they have been fairly common around ww2

Re: No sound on a soundscriber dictation machine
well, there is still a lot to learn. Depending on what model you have, I would recommend you to use an external amplifier - simply attatch the wires directly to the head. You should of course only use mono signals. I recommend you to eq, first cut off everything above 8-9khz, then apply the RIIA cur...

Re: Gelatine Foil Records
no idea, but they are quite stiff, not 'flexi'
packet only mentions 'gelatine foil'
could be a very cheap source for laquers to experiment with, if somebody has an idea how to make them

Gelatine Foil Records
Came across these, German brand, 'Gelatine Foil Records' Never seen or heard anything like it. Looks like 30'ties, 4o'ties. And as you can see they are not really playable anymore:-) Cover says: 'Both for amatuear and finest studio recordings' 'Store cool and dry' 'Two sided, wide frequency response...
