Double checked. Black all the way through. Not layered.

Asked Souri. He confirmed. So, he must be getting the black colored plastic.

@fraggle. I just got a test cut made. I don't see layers. I understand that is one way to get lexan to appear black. I will double check it though and let you know.

I run my own server that is PHP ready on a half meg upstream connection. I would be willing to host the lathe trolls board. Please let me know if you want to try to set it up on my server and see how it runs. FYI, I graduated with a degree in Computer Science in 99. So, I could likely fix the Debug ...

I agree with a lot of what Tron is saying. Why drive someone away? The best thing to do is to share knowledge, wisdom and experience. Together we all grow. You never know who someone is or what they are capable of. With a little guidance there might be someone who via their own means could do what y...

Hey dietrich, again I'm sorry. I do get a little snippy in the mornings. FYI, I'm not buying a lathe to make money cutting records. This is not a business venture for me. Likely I will be cutting some discs for others. But, wether I make a cent doing that or not is irrelevent to me. I simply want to...

Good point. I appologize. Sorry for being snippy. I guess you were just looking out for me Dietrich! I do well financially. I have been saving for a lathe and researching lathes for some time. I've done mono cuts on older broadcast or home disc recording systems. My studio is a nice combo of old and...

20K budget is just for the lathe, cutterhead and amps. I'm in IT. I make good money. I have been saving a while. I have more money coming. I feel like I'm speaking with my father.... Seriously, I've spent at least that much on all of my other outboard gear and computers. You all going to start worry...

20K seems on the low side for a Neumann right now. You will be amazed how costs add up too. Monitors, Computers...a/d conversion. Misc cables, VU meters the list goes on. I am just saying that you should have plenty of reserve cash on hand over and above the cost of the lathe. There is a lot you do...

Thanks for the tip. Just PM'd with Dietrich.

I realize that a more reasonable amount would be 20K. So, ignore my previous post...

Anyone out there with Neumann or Scully fully working with cutterhead and amps that they are willing to part with for 20K please contact me.

Thanks!

Ok, I'm going to try again here... I'm hoping to find either an older Scully or Neumann lathe with cutterhead and amps in full working order. I'm hoping to spend 15,000 USD on the setup. I live in Chicago, IL. I am willing to rent a truck and get a friend to come with to pick up the lathe from anywh...

if you ccan keep the music away from the inner diameter if it dones't need to go there, then so much the better. Great point!!! I think it is worth repeating. You get the worse frequency loss at the inner diameter vs. the outer. The closer you get to the center of the disc, the less vinyl per secon...

It really depends on the LPI that you set or that is controlled by the pitch computer on the lathe. LPI is an independent setting to RPM....

Well, grooves are grooves. Depending on the volume, they will stray wider laterally or deeper vertically. But, that is independent of the speed of the record. You can vary the number of lines per inch (LPI, pitch) of the records. That determines how closely packed the grooves are. Again, this has no...

Wow, thank you so much for offering this. It would take me another year or so to save the cash for something like a VMS lathe. I don't think I can wait that long. So, that is why I'm thinking about getting something in the meantime to learn on. I was thinking about just going with vinylium and somet...

as andybee stated you could have polycarbonate plastic discs cut for you in small runs or even as a one-off. each disc is individually cut. vinylium.ch or vinylrecorder.com. as far as I know there is no such thing as a manual press. A record press is a large device that produces at least a ton of pr...
