Re: Amplifier Role-call / Preferences ??
I stole the circuit breaker (And series RC to compensate driver inductance at high frequency) from the SAL74, and sort of reworked it a bit to take advantage of modern doings and to make it run a better model of voice coil temperature as a function of current and measured value, got to love how eas...

Re: tell me your experiences with the elliptical equaliser
Well if you are the cutting engineer, you need to educate them! I do remember in the old days, the cutting engineer would shake his head and send you away. Unfortunately the people who wrote those checks to the cutting engineer are no longer writing checks. If you want people who are alive to write...

Re: Disappearing grooves mid way through cutting lacqures??
Is there more resistance on the slide where the problem occurs? Is the slide well lubricated? When you fast wind over the problem area is the action as smooth as other spots? Those are the first questions I'd ask. I'd look for a mechanical issue first and then look for an electronics issue. It could...

Re: Dashpot Oil - What Are You Using?
I use a Neumann VMS suspension box, they never specified what grade to use, but 3 in One oil works perfectly and it doesn't weep all over the place! The original oil specified was Telus 29. They then specified a silicone oil who’s specs I forget. Telus 29 is impossible to find although I have a goo...

WTB Neumann AM-131 Gear Trains
I am looking for the gear trains for an AM-131. If anyone has automated their lathe and don’t need them anymore I’d like them. My AM-131 was changed from fixed pitch to continuously variable manual pitch with motors and belt. I would like to set it back to stock but the gear trains are missing.

Re: Accurate monitoring of cuts
Do you have a cutterhead with electronic feedback? Can you set up a feedback monitor? You need to know what the cutterhead is doing before you can set up the playback. Comparing playback to the source file won't work because what's getting cut is different than the source file. If you don't have ele...

If you are unsure then you should find someone to help you. Mains wiring can kill you. It's nothing to play around with or have done improperly.

Re: Caruso Preamp Full Build Service
if anyone actually knows what theyre on about and would care to enlighten me, that would be awesome.... if not i'll keep trying to suss it out. Are you in 230VAC land or 120VAC land? If you are in Europe the the two coils that form the Primary should be in series. If you are in the USA then the two...

Re: Neumann MT 70s for sale
This M10A is a "B wind" deck where the tape oxide faces out instead of in. Telefunken/AEG didn't make audio electronics for this model. In the SP66 console which has an M10A deck built in, the audio electronics were made by a third party whose name escapes me. It looks like there is a power supply i...

Custom Neumann VMS66/70/80/82 Manuals
I am the proud custodian of the Gotham Audio lathe schematic library. I believe I have every version of every drawing ever produced for the VMS66/70 and the VMS80. I don't have complete documentation for earlier models. I am offering custom hard copies of manuals to match the individual rack or lath...

Re: Scully 1” preview/playback machine for sale
That looks like an eight channel 1" deck. There was no such thing as a 1" 2tr let alone preview deck when that was built. I understand Scully did manufacture a preview deck but I've never seen one. It would have been a 1/4" deck.

Re: What exactly is "audiophile" quality?
Audiophile is a state of mind. It's separate from sound quality. When how it's made approaches the importance of the sound coming out of the speakers then the tail is wagging the dog. That. The word generally garners a negative response among pro audio type people. The crowd over at DIY Audio consi...
