Len Horowitz at http://www.hrsrecords.com should be able to get you a reconditioned warranted Westrex 3D for very reasonable cash. He might also have a lead on a Scully - and they come up advertised here once in a while - but I don't know of any specific systems for sale right now. Best regards, Ste...

wow - lots of bidding on that one - went for $717 and some change.
I'd say it fetched towards the higher end of the market.

I know that, but I don't understand how this applies to a feedback control loop. From my understanding some amount of the feedback signal with its polarity reversed is mixed into the original source signal and this blend is in fact what gets sent to the cutterhead. That way if the original source i...

Jay - I'll definitely post back when I get this done. It's the next thing on the "to do list" for the lathe in fact. I decided to delay conversion to a stereo head since the logicstics to do this look like they are being very intensive and time consuming and instead bought a Gotham PFB-150WA to go w...

I think most modern feedback systems use phase cancellation as the primary way of removing the difference.. Hi, I'm not sure what you mean. I've never seen that term used to describe a feedback control system. Phase cancellation means that a signal whose polarity is reversed (180 degrees out of pha...

air mounts

Currently my Fairchild lathe is on casters (which is what it came with) but as the floors in my studio are just hardwood with little isolation, and I'm close to a 4 lane street with heavy traffic I know I'm going to have to pull the lathe off of the casters do some additional isolation. My tech thou...

replacement motors

So - the original motor in my Fairchild 523, while working, is just way too noisy - and looking into it seems it will be way more effective to just replace it with a modern motor rather than to try and restore it. Talking with my tech he seems to think we can also get more accurate speed calibration...

http://www.esotericsound.com/ArmsAndHeadshells.htm They make 2 new 16" tone arms, of the Rek-O-Cut branding, one of them is fluid dampened. They are more modern S style arms with a standard removable headshell mount, like an over grown SL-1200MK2 Tonearm.. http://www.esotericsound.com/Arms-Headshel...

I have been on a mission and a new day job Just got a nice Rek O Kut 16" tone arm for the lathe Nice. I discovered that the new "Rek-o-Kut" "Transcribe" tone arms aren't true 16" - so I need to source a tone arm myself now. Please post photos when you can! Definitely curious to see how it all turne...

Re: Cost of Equipment in 1989 : Sony 1630 / Used Neumann VMS

t Bernie Grundman Mastering only uses the HAECO SC1 cutterhead and nothing else !! Just a small point of factual clarification - but Bernie Grundman uses the Haeco SC-2 and not the SC-1. The SC-2 is essentially a clone of the Westrex 3D with slightly different shaped magnets in a relatively taller ...

from what I understand, a DC offset can damage cuttingheads.. I am not so sure about that. Damage to cutterheads is much more likely to occur from high amplitudes of high frequencies rather than low amplitudes of ultra-low ones. And there's often some amount of very low level DC offset present in a...
