A Heavily Modified Vintage AR Sugden Connoisseur VariGroove Lathe, This Lathe was bought by me some 5 years ago, but when it was delivered the Lathe was Smashed!! A Lesser Mortal would have abandoned this Lathe, and written it off as beyond economic repair!! However, The Broken Sugden designed AC Synchronous Motor as been replaced with a Modern (Very Expensive!!) German manufactured "Rosync" Synchronous Motor and the Lathe is converted to belt Drive at 45 RPM. The Motor Drive Capstan Could simply be replaced with a smaller diameter Capstan by the buyer, to cut at 33.3RPM if necessary. And the Totally Wrecked Sugden Designed Cutterhead has been Replaced with a (Opcode) renovated Presto 1D Cutter!! This Lathe has a Manual LPI Changer and is fully functional (Drive/Overhead/Cutterhead but Personal circumstances means it has not been used by me to produce any Recordings
The Price is £3000 which only covers the costs of Purchasing the Lathe initially, and the costs of replacing the Major damaged components!! It does not reflect the many hundreds of hours painstakingly spent searching for parts,replacements and the work undertaken to effect these modifications!!! This Lathe will require the addition of some form of Swarf Vacuum Pick-Up if it it is to be used fror Cutting rather than Embossing.
