Third Man Pressing: Opening Today!
I thought someone else would beat me to it...
Nice video! Looks new and shiny!
Looks like the Newbilt guys did a great job.
Is anyone going to their opening party today?
Unfortunately I happen to be in the wrong continent under a big pile of work, but it sure looks exciting!
In typical USA tradition, this plant appears to do pressing exclusively. No sign of plating or mastering facilities.
In Europe people seem to think that they need to do everything under one roof.
It appears that they are sharing the building with a watchmaker who also builds turntables...!

Re: Third Man Pressing: Opening Today!
Looks fantastic.
Cycle time is 10 seconds too long.
Only one trimmer per two presses? Should have one trimmer right beside each press.
Operators have to walk around too much.
Operators have to bend to stack records. Who thought that was a good idea?
Label storage way too high on the press.
Ergonomically wrong on so many levels.
Not as efficient as it could have been.
But did I mention..... it looks fantastic.
Smart idea to use a water chiller after the water cooler.
Brilliant installation. All plants should look like this.

Hi Mike,
it seems your pressing plant list is a little bit outdated...

I won't be updating it as others have copied it and used it as the basis of a
commercial website for profit. Then they come back here and ask for updates or confirmation on new pressing plants when they are supposedly the authoritative website on the topic. Anything you want to know, just ask.
Re: Third Man Pressing: Opening Today!
So, Newbilt is the first commercial producer of "new" record-press? First one in South America, second at https://www.vinylrp.com and now third man pressing with like 5 double press.
What's about the other's? http://www.viryltech.com, https://www.facebook.com/pg/DISCOPRESS ... I can't believe there are no other opportunities as find an old press and restore
it, or buy one at Newbuilt (or make a deal with gzmedia).
Does anyone have some more informations?

Re: Third Man Pressing: Opening Today!
While not shown in the video, Third Man Pressing does contain vinyl mastering facilities. They bought out Roger Seibel's SAE Mastering in Phoenix, AZ and were even doing test cuts of the live performances direct-to-disc during the opening weekend.jesusfwrl wrote:

Re: Third Man Pressing: Opening Today!
Thanks for the information. Did you attend the opening? Are you affiliated with the plant?
So mastering and pressing is done in the Detroit facility, and plating is outsourced? Are there many dedicated plating facilities in the USA? Or is this mostly done by pressing plants with a large plating capacity?

i was most excited by the fact that roundabout TEN different pressing plants were in attendance at the opening. all that record pressing experience in one room really made me smile.
there's a handful of dedicated plating facilities in the US...i can think of three off the top of my head. and most any pressing plant with electroplating has offered to help us on that front if/when needed.
Re: Third Man Pressing: Opening Today!
This sounds great, there seems to be a strong team spirit among US record manufacturing facilities. It is nice to see that.
Third Man Pressing looks fantastic, congratulations!
One can only admire all the hard work that has gone into this.
It is also good to see an active presence on lathetrolls of someone affiliated with the plant.
I was personally pleased to read on a press report somewhere that Third Man pressing will be focusing on high quality record manufacturing.
I wish you best of luck and success.
