SCAN - Record Changers and Recorders by John F. Rider [1941]

A spot for keeping track of especially cool (informative, fun) videos, photos, scans and other links about record cutting. (You can post them in other sections. Eventually they may end up here.) NOTE: Please put *Circuits, Schematics and Manuals* in the section with that name.

Full scan of the book digitized by Google, source - University of Michigan. You can view the full book and download PDFs of individual pages, as many as you like. Access to a single download of the entire book is restricted.

It's a super book, 738 pages of historic material.
Many interesting the pages about brands as Rek o Kut, Fairchild, Rca, etc...
Thanks.

Full book download is restricted, I believe to educators. At the very least you can view the entire book and download individual pages for free. I ran across the link while searching for info on Prestos. There is a person on eBay selling a digital copy on CD for $10 so I figured I could probably save some folks a few dollars with this option.

I've saved the pertinent chapter on cutting machines, and included the Index for easy reference to the mass of schematics that make up the bulk of the online scan:

The book itself is pretty short - only 70 pages or so - and the chapter on recorders doesn't offer a whole lot more information than what you can gather just by browsing the forums here. The other 700 pages are all documents from hundreds of machines!

I have a hard copy of this book, dropped $80 on it. I don't mind having paid that for the real thing though.

Good info on old fashioned portable recorders. I think about 150 pages of this book actually covers the recorders so if you need to download them one at a time, you don't have to go through 750 pages for what you need

Pretty sure I picked up a CD copy of this for less than $10 I seem to recall about 1/2 that, got it on eBay.

I seem to remember it had a lot garbage in it, I only got it for the cutter section. I may have got it off Peter Millets site not sure but I think I did get a CD copy before this thread emerged
