Video : PolyGram UK Plant (w/ styrene 7") 1988

A spot for keeping track of especially cool (informative, fun) videos, photos, scans and other links about record cutting. (You can post them in other sections. Eventually they may end up here.) NOTE: Please put *Circuits, Schematics and Manuals* in the section with that name.

1988 polygram plant vid. 8mm, dark.

Look close starting at time 0:28 , then again at 0:51 -- Two things:

There appears to be 7-inch 45's being ejected & rolling out VERTICALLY, at a much faster rate than normal 45 presses can output, so my guess is, styrene injection molding - Anyone know? (Even though I despise styrene 45s, I always wondered what their production looked like, wondering if this is it...)

Also, looks like the 45's pass through rollers to apply glue to the label area; paper labels must get stuck onto the glue further down the line... (Unless those rollers are actually painting on "labels")

Yes, the rollers paint the background onto the label area so that the indented lettering is readable. Note also the large unprinted circle around the centre hole which indicates a styrene moulded record.

This is the first glimpse of an iside a PolyGram plant Ive seen. Good find.
