Lathe cut demonstration at Mini Maker Faire in PA

I'm pleased as punch to announce that Circle Time Records is finally making a foray into the public on Saturday April 23rd, at the Mini Maker Faire at The Children's Museum in Bloomsburg, PA! If all goes as planned, we'll be setting up indoors at the museum from 10-4, and offering free "your voice on a record" demonstrations for visitors.

Just this evening, I refurbished my Pentron MM-4A mic preamp, which will allow as many as 4 mics to be fed into the K8 at once! Vintage mic selection includes a Comet double-button carbon mic, Turner 22D, Astatic 77, and RCA 74B re-ribboned by Clarence Kane. There will also be a few musical instruments on hand as well.

The goal will be to give visitors a chance to directly interact with original vintage audio equipment, expose the greater public to just a few of the secrets of record cutting, and let them take home a souvenir if they wish.

Hope to see you there!

Working on some prototype cardboard blanks for the demo later this month, based on the "picture disc" concept discussed on the forums here. Embossing onto 8mil PVC presentation covers spray glued to layers of card stock. Working well so far!

Actually, I'm getting much better results after switching brands and thickness of the PVC sheet covers. With the Fellowes brand I started experimenting with, it was hit or miss whether it'd be crystal clear or hissy. Currently exhausted after a long and successful day making more than 30 recordings for visitors! Only had one unruly and grabby set of kids - everyone else was very well behaved around the equipment. I made sure to capture every cut as it was being played back, so I'll have samples to post soon. (Sleep comes first though!)
