Presto, Rek-O-Kut or other system wanted

I'm looking for a complete setup to cut 33 1/3 and 45 records.

Mono is fine. Stereo is better.

It would be great if it could do 78 RPM as well.

I have up to $2000 to spend, depending upon condition and what's included.

Let me know what people have.

Thank you.
Jeff

There's a Rek-O-Kut in pieces on ebay right now. The price may be a little steep for its condition though. Looks like you'd have to build a new cabinet for it at the very least.

I have a mono RCA portable cutter that runs at 78 rpm. The motor, amplifier and tubes are all working. The gears to move the cutting arm are also functional. The cutterhead needs a little work though. And the playback arm has no cartidge or stylus.

I would sell it for a very reasonable price. You can slow down audio on a computer, cut it at 78 and play it back at 33 or 45. As long as you slowed it down the proper amount it will sound correct on playback.

Hi - Opcode you have it backwards. slowing down the audio at 78 would result in even slower playback at 33, 45. One would need to clock the audio at nearly double speed for 45 and more than double speed for 33 playback when recording at 78. Thats alot of work for the cutterhead!!

Skyrocketguy - I have a couple Rek o Kuts and a 6N I need to sell.
PM if you are interested.

- Kris

Yes , absolutely as Kris says , if you plus the motor freq change maybe more , with the K10 using the 78 shaft , if i pitch up the audio +24.7 percent ive got a 45 rpm recorded and played with 50 hz machines , is more than 3 times than an usual tt pitch control .

Yep, sorry, my mistake! Not slow down, speed up. Typing reply too quickly...

This has been touched on before, but, I think, in general terms. Is there a risk of damaging a magnetic cutter head by speeding up a source to compensate for a 78record to 45 rpm playback? Is this where a fuse to the cutter head might be advisable?
As always, comments are appreciated.

I'm doing that with the 1C , and maybe im killing the head , compensating the 50/60 hz problem and cutting at 78 , y use + 25 pitch obtainig a 45 perfect pitch record , half speed cutting is -12 of pitch ? That means i get 2 times worst than the improvement of half speed compared to normal cutting ? Dont know Im explained well.

Best regards
