Re: NEUMANN SX74 HEAD CUTTER
Anyone else happen to notice the cutting stylus is inserted in this picture? That is why it appears to be sitting on an angle. You can see the heater wires. The other shot of the bottom clearly shows the stylus on the other end of the wires.
I don't think that could be good. I've read a million times not to put excessive pressure on the torque tube. Seems to be the full weight of the head on there...

Re: NEUMANN SX74 HEAD CUTTER
I wanted to ask the seller of he was a fellow cutter since he is in the same city but from looking at their other items that they are selling, it might be a pawn shop and don't know any better
Nm, they might be people who sell items from estate sells. I messaged the seller, maybe i can find more lathe goodies.

Re: NEUMANN SX74 HEAD CUTTER
It also seems that the head has been opened for repairs as the screws are slightly gouged
The solder joints are quite clean and newish looking and certainly not Neumann standard
However the torque tube looks quite clean not that this is an indication of the guts of the head but the tube tells you if it was used with care, it seems that this is the case here or else it would be quite rough
Just observations

Re: NEUMANN SX74 HEAD CUTTER
odd there is a random head in florida with no other gear
cutting lacquers-vms70 system
Re: NEUMANN SX74 HEAD CUTTER
Anybody that new what they actually had would never set the head down like that.
Re: NEUMANN SX74 HEAD CUTTER
The seller bought it off someone, I assume they have no idea how to use it From the previous observations.
Hopefully they can tell me who the owner was.

Re: NEUMANN SX74 HEAD CUTTER
The auction ended with no buyer but it's relisted here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEUMANN-VMS-80-SX74-HEAD-CUTTER-957-LP-CUTTER-W-DIAGNOSTIC-TEST-CASE-GERMANY-/271265631064
The seller said they don't know who the sold it to them. Looking at the other pics, the stylus is still attached to the torque tube. Well that ended quickly on my adventure.

Re: NEUMANN SX74 HEAD CUTTER
I assume this seller is a broker and probably has never tested or used this head. That's a lot of dough for a head that may need $3k+ worth of work.
