Hey there, your friend Opcode66 here (Todd @ Deep Grooves Mastering).

I just wanted to take a second to let everyone know I am now supplying diamond cutting styli. These diamonds are of my own design. THESE DIAMONDS ARE NOT SUPPLIED BY OUR FELLOW CUTTERS IN EUROPE. That's right. I've contracted to have my own diamonds produced. These are laser sawn and then conventionally ground and polished. These are 100% made in America! And, they are better than any I've ever ordered from Europe. Less background noise on test cuts I've made vs the one from oversees.

Currently I am offering Neumann 320 style shanks. Heating wires are affixed and actually work (unlike about half the ones I've received from Europe where they must have wound the NiCr wire too tightly thereby severing it and no longer allowing current to pass).

For cutters here in the USA I can offer these diamonds at $280 which includes shipping. Outside of the USA additional shipping is required. I will also be offering resharpening services as well for $180. You must buy one of my diamonds in order to take advantage of the resharpening. This allows me to have more control over quality and longevity. We make sure that the facets are properly oriented before sawing and grinding. This is something that most other suppliers are not as careful about. That is why you might have a diamond that lasts a long time and then get another that has the tip chip off after only a few cuts. Mine are more robust due to proper orientation before sawing and grinding.

If you are in the USA I can ship to you within days. It sometimes takes up to 3 weeks to receive a diamond from Europe. And, mine cost a lot less. After Euro conversion and shipping you pay about $350 per diamond from Europe. Mine will cost you $280 and will arrive within 5 business days. And, they won't break after 5 cuts!!!

We are currently sourcing both Vinyl Recorder and Presto shanks. Those diamonds will be available shortly. Pictures of the diamonds, pictures and video of grooves cut with my diamonds and audio samples of cuts by my diamonds and one from Europe will be posted soon! We are also investigating synthetic stones instead of diamonds in order to bring out costs down a bit more and offer an even lower price to you.

Hi..Just wondering how much heat needs to be applied for a quiet cut. Any static problems you anticipate? ( chip pick up) What would be the Micropoint (transco styli) equivalent? Tip radius?

Have you tested these on Lacquers or are they only for lathe cuts? If so (lathe cuts) are you using the SX74 for this?

I tried cutting one lacquer. Chip kept dropping. Not sure why. I will try again at some point to see if tweaking things make a difference.

I have not tried cutting on acrylic.

We will also have a brand new type of stylus. This is very exciting. Something no one has seen or heard of before. I can't let the cat out of the bad. But, this will blow you all away! Let's just say that static issues will be a thing of the past.
