To follow up on the flexi topic with cereal box records and the like at
https://lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?t=669&mforum=lathetrolls

here is a German-language video about chocolate records:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LavSdy8mf_s

German chocolate records anyone? Yes, please! Ja, bitte - ich moechte!

It looks like they have a plastic or porcelain mold into which melted chocolate can be poured and then frozen. Out comes a record playable on a turntable, which can also be eaten.

My basic knowledge of German is not good enough to understand:

Would it be possible to buy a pre-made mold as shown in this video?

Also, would someone here be able to make a plastic or porcelain mold in a similar manner that you would make a stamper, of a lathe-cut lacquer?
Or, better yet, in another topic here is explanation of a kind of plastic one could use to pour over any vinyl record, from which a copy could then be made. I imagine it would, then, be possible to use the same plastic material for creating a negative mold into which melted chocolate could be poured, then frozen, played, and eaten. Of course, the material would also need to be such that it would not leach harmful chemicals into the chocolate. Are any of the molding plastics discussed in other topics safe enough for food products (chocolate or other kinds of edible candy)?

Hi,

Smooth Sil 940 from Smooth-On is food safe. Here is a link to a tech paper describing the properties.

I've been playing with this stuff (actually, the 950 series since I don't need food safe) to cast urethane resin 7" records. Works well.

Mark
