CURRENT LOGIN ISSUES.

Was: "SITE MAINTENANCE -- Site will be down for 1 hour Wednesday"

Dear All,

The site will be down from around 4 am to 5 am, East Coast of USA time (EDT), Wednesday morning, April 5, 2017.

That means:

Tuesday, April 4, 10pm-11pm in Hawaii.
Wednesday, April 5, 1-2 am in California, USA.
Wednesday, April 5, 10:00-11:00 hours in Deutschland.
Wednesday, April 5, 6-7pm in Sydney, Australia.

OK?

Here's why: This whole site making a LONG overdue move to a dedicated IP address with an SSL certificate and a higher bandwidth. This will make the site more secure. The web address will read as:

Code: Select all

https://www.lathetrolls.com
Instead of:

Code: Select all

http://www.lathetrolls.com
That little "S" added to the end of the http makes all the difference, apparently.

I am anticipating glitches, just to be safe. I hope not. I am backing up everything right now, just in case.

Well, as often happens with these things, the transition has not been as smooth as hoped. The site is FINALLY back up after 5 terrifying hours. It is not yet SSL secure, and the cookies are doing wacky things. Keep the faith, people.... I expect it be ever better than before, a bit later today.

DELETE YOUR COOKIES IF YOU CAN'T LOGIN

OK. Well.... more headaches. I adjusted some cookie settings and the board became impossible to log into. I only just fixed that.

Site is not yet truly https compatible. I'm going to have to fiddle with it more over the weekend.

Thanks for your patience, everybody.

There is a link at the bottom right of the board, which says "delete all board cookies." Try clicking that if and when you have problems logging in.

OK!!! It appears we now have SSL enabled. The board is therefore a lot more secure than it used to be, and you are logged in using "https" (instead of "http").

You MAY have some trouble logging in, or staying logged in. If this happens:

*Try clearing the cache of your browser.
*As I mentioned before, go to the bottom right of any page on this site, and click "Delete all board cookies." If you are logged in, this will log you out, but it should improve your ability to stay logged in, moving forward.
*You may need to update bookmarks in your browser.

I am seeing some new weirdness. Every time I go to a new page, the header seems to reload and flicker in an ugly way. I don't know how to fix that, or even if it can be fixed.

PLEASE alert me to any functionality problems as a result of this change. Are images loading OK? Videos?

If you can't stay logged in long enough to Private Message me, email me at SteveEspinola, over there at gmail.

OK! Eventually the site will FORCE SSL. https! As opposed to http (no s.) Right now I can't do that because of a technical glitch. (long boring story.)

So! If you have trouble staying logged in, make sure you are at:

Code: Select all

https://www.lathetrolls.com
That's http with an s at the end!

Try accessing the site from this link:

https://www.lathetrolls.com

Let me know if you are still having trouble....

i do believe that the site now forces SSL (https.) This is good. It makes everything far more safe and secure; and search engines will rank us higher.

The site may have been a little intermittent today, as I was trial-and-error-ing some code related to this issue.

If you have any login-related troubles, or if you notice any instances where the site is NOT enforcing https, please let me know. thank you!
