special record player for 7inches

Turntables, tonearms, preamps, amps, cables, monitor speakers. What do you use to play back your one-off dubplates or pressed records? (related topics, too.)

Yo!
I found this blog today:
http://7inches.blogspot.de/

at the right side is a small pic of the blogger´s profile,
showing a record player, looks like was made only for 7inches.
anybody knows the model/manufacturer?

Thanks!

:D

Imagine putting a 12 inch on there... It works. Allow for the disc to extend beyond the edge of the turntable - at least it doesn't interfere with the edge guard! (L:

I have one of these at home - mine is made by Califone and was in every public (read: State funded) school for children.

Hi,

Looks alot like the typical Caliphone machines used in schools back in the day here in the US.

I think this is the same model as in the blog.

These had a smaller platter and could play all speeds 16/33/45/78 they used a turnover style ceramic pickup.

They are popular here with record collectors because they are portable, rugged, and at just the level of quality to audition records without destroying them.

My first turntable was a VM four-speed, pretty similar to the Califones. I tried to power it up recently, but too many years sitting derelict had dried out the caps and the amp went poof! Another one to add to the project pile, it seems.

Hey Andybee,

That's my blog, and I used to have a Califone player as my profile pic:

Image

It's pretty basic, like everyone said, built like a tank and sort of portable.

Then I met my wife, who laughed at my terrible record player that had probably had been damaging my records for years. Now we have multiple Dual turntables and amps and cartridges and vibration dampening pads...all the things I swore I would not get into because I only cared about the records....

Oh well, I need to move now.
