new cylinder recordings for museum of so. korea

Anything goes! Inventors! Artists! Cutting edge solutions to old problems. But also non-commercial usage of record cutting. Cost- effective, cost-ineffective, nutso, brilliant, terribly fabulous and sometimes fabulously terrible ideas.

the museum of south Korea just commissioned me to replicate 40 original cylinder recordings. these were recorded in 1914 by Korean prisoners of the German army in world war 1. Korea fought with the Russians in world war 1. historically significant original acoustic recordings, there are eleven audio files with three copies of each, plus six brown wax cylinders recorded in 1896. this is the first test of the new recordings on Edison black wax recording blanks at 160 rpm. this was recorded 101 years ago. the copies will sound identical to the original cylinder recordings, we are duplicating the original Edison cylinder tubes as well.
