Deep Grooves Mastering - Project Bladerunner

Anything goes! Inventors! Artists! Cutting edge solutions to old problems. But also non-commercial usage of record cutting. Cost- effective, cost-ineffective, nutso, brilliant, terribly fabulous and sometimes fabulously terrible ideas.

The position of the holes don't matter. What matters is the shape of the spring. Sorry. To be honest, the most important anchor is the center.

Metal torque tube with proper stylus taper. Spring steel v spring for the torque tube. Spring steel transducer springs. Improved push rod assembly yet to be built. My coils for drive and feedback are now completely modular which makes building and repairing them very simple. This build will be very close to the priduction model. I have some changes i want to make to the body. So, there will be at least one additional r&d model before production. So far so good!

The second transducer pair with metal parts. I will build a third pair when the materials arrive. The combination of materials that work best will go into the production model.

I've added a copper disc for EM protection now too.

Test cut soon. Bench tests are great!

Bladerunner 1 J Metal Update Part 2

The transducer and torque tube springs are now metal. The torque tube is metal and has a proper tapered stylus hole. The linkage is now soldered to the transducers. The drive coils are on nylon bobbins. This is very close to the production model. I test feedback tomorrow. I will shoot video of the test cut and post within the next couple days. You'll hear in this video that I have significantly increased performance.

Bladerunner 1.J Test Cut
Fantastic sounding test cut. 20 to 20K response on disc. Not just on the bench. Crisp and clear sound. I couldn't be happier.

Hey Todd,
Nice to see / hear test cuts again! Great progress there man. Lot's of work involved since the last version for sure! Learning to do all that new machine work was a big task for sure. Oh, and I like the gloves. It's a good look as long as you wear them in pairs.

I’m curious about a few things. No need to answer if you want to keep something a secret.

What alloy are you using for the links?
Why a steel torque tube rather than a lighter but stiff alloy?
Are you still running an 8 degree head angle?
Doesn’t the SX torque tube have a 7 degree angle on the tapered hole?
When cutting, is the stylus perpendicular or do you use a back angle because of the 90 degree tapered hole?

Again, I’m just curious since I’ve been plodding through some of those questions on my own project.

Bryan
