Midi Control for "TIME" VMS70 for VTM
Hi Folks
It's my first post here.
I've been cutting records with a well known UK studio now for about 6 months or so, so I am technically a newbie still.
Although I have been a studio engineer for many years I'm not any kind of an electronics expert
So I'm asking this question partly out of curiosity, but also hoping that there may be a simple solution.
I've searched the forum for this idea but so far found nothing.
Which does make me wonder, Is the solution so simple that everyone is already doing it?
Or is the question so stupid that no one would ever bother with it?
I guess I'll find out soon enough.
So the big question.
Is it possible to control ( switch ) the TIME button on the varipitch of a VMS70 via midi, to create a VTM
If so, how?
I'm thinking along the lines of a Midi to CV type interface that would simply send a trigger to the varipitch to activate TIME set at the desired length.
Attaching a screenshot of the rough idea of it in Pro Tools.
Has anybody done this before?
The main reasons for wanting to do this is partly to avoid messing up an entire cut by simply missing a VTM ( getting distracted, forgetting etc )
Also for cutting LPs with lot's of very short tracks or ident type inserts, also for cutting records where perhaps the VTM point is not obvious by looking at the waveform of the audio.
IE: there is no silence or obvious stop/start point in the audio between tracks, ( ambient LPs for example, or Live/Mixed LPs )
Many Thanks for any replies that could point me towards a solution.
Also appreciate replies as to why this could be a good/bad idea.

Hi Mavis,
I.ve always been using midi to make "Band" and "Lead out" I use the tone B for Band and E for end, made the box myself for this with relay's that I soldered directly to the push buttons on the Scully LS-76 Lathe :

Hi!
A lot of pro cutters use such a device.
In case you need help (or a built unit) feel free to pm.
BTW - is stock VMS pitch computer or upgraded?

thanks very much, It is the standard pitch computer, I'm looking at the answer above which links to a really good description of the process, hopefully I'll be able to work it out but many thanks for the offer of help much appreciated.dubcutter89 wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 9:23 amHi!
