Hi

I am wanting to squeeze as much quality as I can out of my 8n and was wondering if there will be any advantages of overall fidelity sapphire/ruby cutting to lacquer vs diamond cutting to myshank pvc?

Lacquer discs have better fidelity. I have heard some good plastic cuts and durability is better for plastic. If you are cutting masters, Lacquers are the way to go either recording direct to the lathe or for reproduction. If you wanted to create a product people can play over and over with less deterioration, you might think about plastic.

Good to know, yes I would just be cutting then directly transferring the audio to digital. I cut plastic alot but wanted to see any advantages for fidelity to do lacquers for this

Here is a good representation of jobs we have cut to lacquer using a Rek-o-Kut and Grampian head.

if you can spare the expense, definitely go with lacquer in this case!
plastic is great but the only advantage is more repeated playback, or usually making those copies for sale.
lacquer wins for fidelity and QC in general
making lathe cuts on a Presto 6N, HIFI stereo cuts on vinylrecorder
