New cutting room -- Well Made Music

My second lathe has been installed in a new room upon an air isolation table that is designed for MRI machines and electron microscopes. No unwanted vibrations any more!

Come visit Cleveland, Ohio if you want to see it and we make great beer in this city too!

The quote for a new table was 9300 bucks plus a 77 day turnaround.

I found mine via an industrial liquidator. It also weighs 1500lbs so you have to hire people to move it around.

Does the table have transducers on the table side? How does it deal with the turntable motor vibration?

As far as the motor is concerned, it seems to be floating correctly in its mount, I got all new foam for the mounting screws and the deck of the table is two 1/2" plates of steel sandwiching a 2" piece of granite. I think that is about as good as I can do for the motor itself.

Ah, I assumed it was an active table. I guess it's passive. That sounds like it will work.

If you don't mind me asking, what exactly did you get to replace the foam for the motor mount.

I have to be honest, I think I got them from Al's shop the last time I was there OR they came from the Netherlands with my second lathe. They are large foam grommets. I had to cut them down (they were too tall). I used to have a few extra. If I can find them, I will shoot a photo.

Chris Muth recommended open cell neoprene. Can't remember where I found it. Got it in a 1" x 4" by 36" strip and cut to fit. Not cheap!
