Vinylrecorder and Sapphire / Ruby

Hello all, long time reader, first time poster. Also, a bit of a noob.

I've got myself one of Souri's Vinylrecorders and I do love the machine. However, I'm wanting to dive into cutting lacquers and have found that the taper on a Souri Diamond is not the same taper as a Neumann 320 style Sapphire. Emailing back and forth with some folks and doing a bit of reading myself, It's come to my understanding that the 320 style Sapphire has a 1:20 taper and Souri Diamonds have a 1:40 taper (so the fitting on the cutterhead is for that of a 1:40 taper)..

My question to you all is, though Vinylrecorder is said to be compatible with Neumann style Ruby's and Sapphires, which one should I be purchasing? I have purchased two NSH-2S, Neumann, 3 micron, Sapphires and while the first one fit snug, the second is quite loose.

I cut 12 sides on the first one before it started getting noisy so I moved on the to the second one.. and was disappointed with the fit.

Is there a shank adapter available anywhere to do from a 1:40 taper to a 1:20 taper? Am I even purchasing the correct Stylus?

Like I said, very much love the machine and love working with Souri. I have an email out to him now, waiting for reply, just thought I would ask the trolls!

Thanks!

Cheers!

Looking at trying to have an adapter made. Making phone calls today. Could be something that many VR users could take advantage of..

Will keep you all in the loop!

Cheers.

Update! I actually heard back from Souri about this and he had me send my cutterhead to him. I now have no issues at all with fit for 320 shank. Cuttin' clean and clear!

In the end, I had no need for an adapter.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Jonathan

Oh yeah!! The issue was that the torque tube didn't have the proper taper. Souri fixed it right away.

Cuttin real good now and stuff!!
