Good day,

The question about the laquers. All the world use the apollo lacquers or may be we have another choice?
The quality of the Apollo is not so good and we want to change it.
May be somebody can tell what they use?

Thaanks!

LOL!!! Not so good? I disagree.

There is another company in Japan who produces lacquers. I they are called MDC. Unless you have a Japanese friend who will order and ship them to you from Japan then you are out of luck.

There are a few people kn the board who have wondered about lacquer formula and how they are curtin coated. The production part os fairly well known. The formula is not at all. And, no one that knows it would give it to you for free.

Hmm, or you phone, email, or write a letter to:

http://www.protape.co.uk/products/cutting-houses/mdc.html

or

http://www.estemac.de/shop/produkt/122/85/emdic-14-quot-schneidfolien/

AFAIK they only have masters, no dubs... prices are quite the same as apollo/transco

Protape.co.uk is a UK distributor. Will they even ship to the US or other places outside of the EU?

The other supplier, estemac.de, costs $38.24 per disc. That is more expensive than Apollo. They also have a 25 disc minimum order unlike the 5 disc minimum with Apollo.

I don't have any first hand knowledge, but I have to assume the quality is exactly the same. Has anyone used discs from both sources? Can anyone say anything concrete?

If anyone want to make their own lacquers you could hire an organic chemist to concoct a formula for you. But, you would need to do a lot of research in order to point them in the right direction. And, I think the development costs for the lacquer formula alone would likely be somewhere between 30K and 100K USD. Professional chemists with a working lab are very expensive to contract.

Good luck though. Let us know when you have Masters that are of the quality proper for plating.
