Identifying Matrix Number
Hi
I have a set of two test pressing plates that I'm
Researching to find out the band and album name
The only thing I have for reference is a #
Engraved on the plate and written on the envelope
It also says LEWIS MFG but I'm unable to
Find a company with that name
Can you help and direct me to some
Archival library that would be able to identify
The album by the limited information I have?
Thanks
Otto

Re: PLEASE HELP - PLEASE
Lewis Mfg. was a Los Angleles based pressing plant owned by an alcoholic woman. Lewis was one of the main pressing plants used by bootleg labels such as TMOQ and TAKRL in the 70s.
The metal parts you have were more than likely made by James G Lee Processing Co.
There is no archival library that lists each and every record released or what it's matrix number was at each plant it was pressed at around the world. List it here, post a photo of the envelope and any other information you have on it and you might get an answer.
And next time, be clear in the subject title of your post. I'll edit it now to reflect the actual nature of the topic.

Re: Identifying Matrix Number
Quick google search where i was assuming this Lewis was a cutting engineer and searching for ''MFG records'' Furnace was the first show up. Just like a said, a random thought. Silly now i looked up ''MFG'', not a common abbreviation in Europe or to me.

I see.
I'm guessing he might have Led Zeppelin bootleg mothers that he wants to verify. The last time LZ mothers appeared on ebay, the auction was cancelled and the mothers sold privately to the Tarantura guy in Japan for USD $10K.

Try Discogs, most record entries have runout information.
