VR Clear box heating modification

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

VR Clear box heating modification

Hi folk..

I have just upgraded my VR with a 275w heater above the platter. Wow what an improvement and even heating compared to the standard side lighting (hard to get globes for them too now!)

Question - I am looking at encasing the VR in a clear box (measurements are: 800mm wide x 400mm High x 700mm deep)

Has anyone sourced anything made already? eg: storage boxes? I would like a flip top lid to access the front of machine, obviously.

If nothing similar is already exisiting (yes! I have googled!!) then I may produce this from some clear plastic sheeting.

The reason for this is to keep the heat within box, and to keep dust out. win win..

If I make these, I may look at posting some pics, and would be happy to sell, or help with this much needed improvement.

Cheers!!

This works well but you are increasing static! There are anti static fans with heaters built in on ebay, that is what we use if needed.

Hi David,

Afraid I can't help you with your box idea but was wondering, could post the make & model of that 275w heater you're using please (and/or where you bought it from)?

Thanks!

Hi there,
Hi Trolls,
Due to being Inordinately busy following my house move, I've not had time to make much more progress with this Lazarus Lathe Project. I did however find time to send an email or two to Paul @ http://www.inperspextive.com
Paul has made for me a Totally Superb Acrylic Cover which fits the DR33C like a Charm. I thoroughly recommend his workmanship to any Lathe Trolls needing any similar Covers for their own Projects
Something like this ((Only Bigger!!)) :?: :?:

If so, give http://www.inperspextive.com a shout out
Best Regards
Soulbear :P :) :D

Hey David,
Hope you're doing great. Would you mind posting a picture of your installation?
I'd love to see how you set it up

Thanks
Ben
