cheap embossing material

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

cheap embossing material

I'm looking for something other than solo plates to emboss on , the plates work fine and when they don't curl up they play fine but almost always they curl up and are unplayable, ploycarb is too expensive where I live and even getting petg is somewhat cost prohibitive, anyone have any ideas about an alternative diy cheap blank? I'm so mad we decided in the 80s that a CD would be a 5 inch disc lol

cheers

Maybe there are cheap laser discs to be found that no one wants.

Laserdiscs are made of acrylic, unfortunately. They can't be embossed, only cut using no longer readily available cutting sapphires (or diamonds, tho NOT recommended), and the acryclic will wear needles out QUICK. Can be done, but not cost effective AT ALL.

You should be able to get polycarbonate squares just about anywhere for $1/each or less.

just a heads up laserdiscs aren't as cheap as they once were on Ebay.
maybe you'll have better luck in person, but I find them at minimum to be $2 each or so

Sheets of polycarbonate are relatively cheap, I just score both sides and snap them into squares.
Though I bought some thinker carb and had it cut into squares but I’m really struggling to emboss with out it getting stuck in a loop.
