VR with Technics SP10 MkII : Max Weight stylus

I recently bought a Technics SP-10 mkII to hopefully finally get rid of the wow problems I'm having with specific music (vinylrecorder).
Now waiting for the table to arrive.
Can anyone tell me on forehand how much weight I can give maximum at the stylus in order to stay free from wow issues?
I vaguely seem to remember it can have 20 gram and with 22 gram wow issues start to emerge. But can't find back this post.
Should I better buy a mkIII instead, or is it overkill.

But I'm afraid I'm more the simple type... tried to pull the torque with 5kg per cm, but the pick up seems to keep slipping from the table.

Wow won't be an issue. Never heard of wow at 22g, or maybe even at all using a SP10 MKII on a VR? Within normal limits of course, but in terms of cutting, no matter the weight, I'm pretty sure wow won't be a problem

Yeah since I used the SP10 MKII it changed everything, so many noise issues have gone, +10db cuts on 12"! Cutting right from the edge

I read there should be some adjustments done. Can you tell me which?
Just minor ones? I read some people use a precisionplate in conjunction with the sp10 mkii. Is this necessary?

The run out on a SP10 is significantly less than say a 1210, but the precision plate is always good, there’s plenty of torque so if you can afford one, I’d go for it. It isn’t essential, you can get great cuts without it, but for sure it will help even the tiniest amount of run out.

In terms of other adjustments, nothing really, just the normal calibration of the overhead and cutting head for weights and diamond travel to the center of the blank

Maybe there is something wrong with my SP10 but it does NOT like having the precision plate on it.
Goes into some sort of cogging motor error.
It runs beautifully without the precision plate, and I can cut all the warped discs out there (that everybody sells) with no problems

Just to confirm that your SP10 is a mkII (or possibly a mkIII), correct?
If so then, from the symptoms you describe, it sounds like you're significantly down on torque from level it should be at. First thing I'd do is have someone who knows what they're doing service the electronics in both the turntable and power supply.

As a side note:
I've placed the SP10 MKII under the VR.
I was expecting a difference in height (compared with the 1200 MKII, but it's almost exactly the same. About 9.2 cm.
The rubber mat which came with the SP10 MKII is quite thick though.

The main reason why I stepped into this new turntable project is, not so much the wow problem.

The main reason was a constant recurrence of swarf issues, the last months. After having tried everything, I noticed when I increased the weight of the stylus, swarf issues disappeared.
Only on the 1200 MKII, wow issues appeared, or even extremely fully false music.

I can confirm, after a few testcuts, for now the swarf problems have gone, while keeping a fully clean wow/flutterless cut.
(Btw, I have the weight of the stylus at 24 gr at the outer rim and it's about 22 close to the centre, which sort of answers my question in a very positive way)
Hoping now it stays like this.
Strangely I've never had this kind of issues in the previous 3 years.
Perhaps it's because of severe low humidity (although raising the humidity didn't really help).

Maybe it's possible to have someone produce it for you?
Basically it's only a metal disc if I'm correct

I run a SP10 myself with nice results. I didn't make any height adjustments. I had a custom mat made though. My SP10 mat wasn't close to some kind of flat.

About weight. I think a SP10 can handle more weight than you'll ever need. So focus on your groove width/depth with a microscope and adjust accordingly.

It looks that your head is not paralell to the plate.. how do you adjust the stylus? i always have little problems to find sweet spot.

It’s the angle of the photo which makes it look not parallel. It’s maybe 5% off but a little off doesn’t matter that much. With many parameters in play- weight stylus, counterweight, angle it’s just a matter of fiddling around. Your VR is different from others so the setting is unique as well- within reasonable limits

I simply flipped the mat upside down. I added Souri’s mat on top but this isn’t even necessary.
Works perfect and no level issues.
