Blank Importing to UK in 2021

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Has anyone imported blanks into the UK this year? If so, how did you find the experience?

Thanks, Obi

Excellent news! Have been dreading it. Did you get any further fees? Import duty?

not for blanks but I got a hefty customs fee for some Masters I had cut in mainland Europe.

at least we can rest-assured all these fees we have now are going to contribute to National Healthcare, just like the Prime Minister told us they would.

It seems to be fairly random. I know lots of people importing records from the EU, a few have had no customs issues. Others have been clobbered, e.g. a 25 euro record subject to £10 customs charges and a £12 Parcelforce handling fee. I had a Myshank order in January turn up with no extra demands, but I'm thinking I might not be so lucky next time when I run out of blanks.

I should probably add that those blanks were ordered at the beginning of January, so things may have changed since then. I've certainly experienced long delays receiving other things ordered from the EU that just appear to be sat in courier depots awaiting processing. As an aside, I know of at least one US-based business owner who was regularly exporting to the UK and has now ceased to do so because of the new VAT rules, so it's not just the B***it cluster-fuck (I'll spare you all a lengthy rant about my true feelings on this subject) that is scuppering things...
